Building Card payments into an EPOS system help

Hi

We are looking at building card processing into an EPOS system we are building and although in theory we could cheat and use the same terminal as our online phone sales, I don't think thats the best way to sort this.

Our trade counter won't get used massively but its something we want to developer.

However sagepay don't support intergrating a chip and pin reader at present, does anyone know who I need to speak to to set this up, I have called streamline and they are calling me back, but I don't like waiting.

Thanks in advance

Thanks for the information, they don't do what we are after but they where very helpfull, they have pointed me to yespay, and commidea however they seem very expensive so this might not be viable, (could be £100 per month before we take a purchase).

Yespay were rubbish at understanding what we wanted and commidea were better, just waiting for emails with further info and prices.

The basic idea is, when someone comes in, we go onto a seperate web page on our web site, we scan the items in as though its a checkout (but it's on a web site) then at the end we click a button for the customer to pay by card and the chip and pin machine goes into action asks to enter card, enter pin and the payment is processed and the information regarded as needed.

So we don't want a seperate credit card terminal, we want an intergrated one. I thought I would simply be able to buy a chip and pin reader and have an api module on our server to process it, and I think thats roughly what they offer but it aint cheap.

I was going to suggest yespay and commidea as the people to talk to. Both have products that will sit in the background and do exactly what you want, the trick is getting your system to pass the info to their system and vice versa.

Cost is obviously an issue though. Off the top of my head, should cost about £15 per terminal per month, but there may be integration costs.

I have re-read your bit about it being on the website - this bit may be what confused yespay. Its strange, because they are often ringing us up to integrate into our system. If you just tell them you want to integrate emboss into your system, I would expect them to get all excited!

Just a side note about what you are trying to do, you may have considered all this already, but will you be able to take any transactions in the event of broadband being unavailable? If you cant access the web instore, for whatever reason what will happen ?

Thanks for the info, I will see what they send and take it from there, I am only in planning stages at the moment.

We are looking at going over VIOP phones, so we need to find a solution to be able to continue, one if using a dongle, although the till system isn't as important as the phones.

We chose .net becuase we wanted to develope into this, and didn't think php offered the expansion.

Just got some info from sage pay and their setup fee is £42.50 (although their monthly fees are a little higher it would take years before we made the other solution viable), so at the moment they are wining, I am waiting for a call fom alanc recommendation as they needed to talk to someone to see if they can provide the solution.

commidea are well known for having high installation costs. Depending on what is needed, you could approach someone who resells commidea as part of their own epos systems in your area to install it for a lower cost.

This may not be possible depending on what they want you to install.
