Well thats a bit if a wide question there! Best quality traffic is targetted traffic as always.

best conversion rates is a long one. According to a survey done 2 years ago the average conversion rate from web visitor to purchaser is 1.4%, but I would have expected this to increase to around 3-4% by now.
Two years ago vertical market websites used to average around 3% conversion rates, which again would have expected to increased to around 5-6% now.

My website attracts around a 10% conversion rate which I am quite proud of.

what kind of traffic do you consider the highest quality? Who has the best conversion rate for actual sales.

Best in terms of conversion is usually from your own in-house list (opt in email newsletter) - these are people who have already visited your site and expressed an interest in your products/service. Of course you have to get the newsletter right for your audience too (frequency, tone, content, hard sell/soft sell).

Next best - usually the most targeted keyword phrases used on pay per click adverts [Adwords, Overture] - these are often 3 or 4 word phrases - especially for products. For example; if somebody is searching for 'digital camera' they probably only have a vague idea of what they want or are just browsing for information. But if they search for 'ixus 50 digital camera' then they have probably already decided to buy that particular brand and model and are searching for a relevant retail site and comparing prices/offers and/or perhaps looking for reviews to confirm the buying decision. Likewise, traffic from price comparision sites like pricerunner should convert well too for the same reason.

If you have an affiliate program then affiliate traffic can convert well too - depending on how well the affiliate has 'pre sold' the visitor: a personal recommendation for a product with a favourable review which points out the plus and minus points and then links directly to the product on your retail site for example; could convert at 5 or even 10% while an affiliates link to a free competition on your site may only convert at 0.1%. Of course you should also be continually testing, tracking and tweaking your landing pages to increase conversion once traffic gets to your site.
