For years I have been a Businesss Santander Customer, without an overdraft. For sake of argument, say I have £1 in my account and on Friday Morning a DD hits for £2000, Santander sends me a text telling me I need to lodge money before 4pm. I go in, se what the DD is that has hit and either lodge or transfer money from a reserve account to cover the transaction.
In my Barclays personal account, say I have £1 in my account, and my vehicle insurance hits for £100 , I get a text message telling me to lodge money before 3pm.
I recently transferred my business account to Barclays as it has a branch I can get coinage change at, and on Monday at 2pm, I lodged 2500 to cover this weeks direct debits. However, my main supplier had submitted a DD at 12:07am and it had been returned at 12:32 am. Is this normal for a Barclays business account, in requiring cleared funds the day before?
I asked one of the staff who seems inexperienced, who confirmed that cleared funds were necessary at the time the DD hit. Ie on a bank holiday weekend, I'd need to have cleared funds before the bank closed on Friday to cover any DD that hit on Midnight on Monday?
Is this standard practice for a Barclays Business Account, when their personal account offers the same day restitution service?
