I am thinking of starting a company checking other businesses first aid kits to ensure that they are following the regulations. How much would you pay to have your first aid kits checked? How much should I charge? I am also thinking of supplying the different components of first aid kits and if while doing a check I find that they are not meeting the regulations I can supply these to them. Should I just do the checks or try to sell the components to companies as well?

I guess most businesses will look online to find out what they need, or just buy a new one.Do you know how generally how many businesses are not following the regs, what is the penalty for non- compliance. If you answer them then hopefully you can decide your best move forward , Good luck

I don't know how many businesses are not following the regulations. I thought business owners may not have the time to find out more about the regulations, not fully understand them or to check their kits so these are the businesses I would target. If the regs are not being followed Enforcement action could include issuing notices or prosecuting if the circumstances warrant it.

I would have thought a lot of businesses would have a H+E officer that is employed by the company or at least have somebody who comes in periodically to check these sort of things?

Not sure you could make a living out of checking first aid boxes unless you have something else to offer as part of the service.

That is why companies need to check their kits a number of products inside them have an expiry date. If I was to sell components in the kits I would be able to double my money on everything sold so if companies pay me to check I am really getting paid to sell to them.

Ok thanks for the advice guys. I think I will try and market it to companies between college and uni if nobody seems interested I will just stop as there is not really any start up investment due to just doing checks. If companies are interested I will run it part time while at uni and buy some first aid stock to sell.

It's going to be a bit of a pig to market a service like that. Companies big enough to care are likely to be on top of the problem already, and businesses small enough to need the service won't really care. I certainly can't see them paying you to check the kit they have when they could just bung 20 quid at the problem and get a new HSE approved kit to stick in a cupboard.

If I charged say £10 for a check and then they just purchased the equipment they needed That would work out cheaper for the company than buying a whole kit. Oh well back to the drawing board I think if anyone has any good part time business ideas so I can get some money while at uni let me know

Try www.themoneyshed.co.uk. You'll find lots of ideas there to make money on the side whilst you're a student. Web search evaluation work seems very popular with companies like Leapforce and Lionbridge. Think it pays about £9 per hour and you work from home. There are also websites like What Users Do that pay people to test the usability of people's websites, that seems quite popular too. You'll get more info on the Money Shed site.

That what users do looks great I will sign up to that later they charge companies £30 per check and pay you £8 per check I bet the bosses are racking in the cash!!

I have been thinking if I were to push through fliers with a first aid kit checklist with what the regs require and a sticker with my company details to put on their first aid kit. They could then look at what they need and just order that from me instead of the whole kit. You can make a 100% profit on the equipment sold this way and I can only find existing companies selling full kit refills not the individual parts.
