Affiliate tracking

Hi all,

I am starting to get companies interested in our affiliate scheme but i need a way to track what business they are generating. The way our program works (we only pay affiliates for businesses that accept our recommendations and sign a contract with us) makes it quite difficult, its not just a click through affiliate scheme. We could just track their click throughs but there is no way of knowing who clicks through is successful.

Is there software out there that isn't too expensive and can help. Also could a web designer set this up?

Appreciate any advice.

Cheers,

Graeme

Your best bet may be to talk to some Affiliate companies that manage this sort of thing for you, such as TradeDoubler and CommissionJunction.

The basics though is that you will need to have your website updated to track visitor through Cookies, and tracking URL's ... for example my system uses something like this.....

    http://www.quickformations.com/index.php?src=ukbf

Now if anyone clicks on that link and then orders a company formation from me I'll know that order came from this post! I have an affiliate scheme in place and if I logged that code against an affiliate I'd know how many orders that affiliate has given me and pay their commission.

Now, the shortfall of these schemes is the increasing paranoia about Cookies, and if the web browsers block cookies then all affiliate schemes fall down ... nowt you can do about that really I'm afraid.
