Adding 'Ltd' to a Business Name.

Hello, quick question if I may.

I am setting up a new business as a Sole Proprietor, and am looking to register my name with the National Business Register.

Rather than just having my company name registered (eg 'Bananas'), am I allowed to cheekily add the word 'Ltd' (eg 'Bananas Ltd'). Although I am not a limited company, adding the 'Ltd' offers an air of professionalism to the name.

I appreciate this is cheeky, but just wanted to clarify the legal standing on this, if anyone can help?

you cant do that, just like you cant have Lord, Sir and other titles as your first name.

you cant have Ltd or Limited at the end of your business name.

In which case, my apologies for the question. That's obviously something I do not want to do - was merely asking from an onomatopoeic perspective (now there's a word you don't type very often!).

Yep can't be done - you would need to register the company as a limited company with Companies House before you could call it 'Bananas Ltd'.
