Just come across the following keyword research ebook from wordtracker. Unsure about the quality, but taking a brief look at the index it looks like it could prove useful especially to those who are new or want to understand a little bit more about keyword research and the like.

Enjoy: http://www.wordtracker.com/academy/keyword-research-guide/

The trouble with Wordtracker and Overture keyword lists is that their figures can be awfully flawed, both in terms of volume, and relative importance.

Best keyword research is via PPC - gives you a better idea of volume and potential conversion rates if tested properly.

I know the idea has been suggested before, and the idea of spending a few hundred on keyword research treated with disdain.

IMO, though, if you're a serious business, you need to do serious research. Keyword research is not a cost, it's an investment.

My keyword sources are;
  1. My own stats, seeing what words get me traffic.
  2. 'Related Searches' on some google (bottom of page) SERPs, and MSN (top right) SERPs
  3. Tag clouds can be useful
  4. Overture (if it ever comes back online:mad:)
  5. Competitors sites, viewing the code
  6. And a few others...
All free too. :)
