    Hi guys,

i'm looking at expanding my service business into suppporting more businesses rather than mainly domestic clients.

What are your thoughts on offering free 30 minute free consultations on-site (obviously aiming to create work/on-going support) so I can analyse their systems, equipment/software etc?

    Thank you

I'd be a little wary that the consultation wasn't weighted towards creating work rather than an impartial analysis.

I think I'd prefer a paid consultation with the fee refunded if the consultation resulted in further work.

Just a personal view of course.

'Free consultation ' is always laden with 'long sales pitch'

I know lots of finance brokers who shout 'free financial health check' - given that they are in no way qualified, and will blatantly be looking for ways to lend money, I'd run a mile.

In your case, you'd need to demonstrate a possibility of a positive outcome even if they don't use your services

I'm not a fan of this. When I need to call someone in then I find that service and I am looking to be sold to, no need for it to be a badged up as a free consultation. Exactly as @Fagin2021 states, I'd expect you to do a run down on my setup otherwise how you going to be able to quote.
