Supplier went into administration 2 years ago - I owe them £4k

    Hi all, as the title says I bought clearance stock from administrators when my supplier went into administration over 2 years ago, a little over £4k agreed price.

    I have never received an invoice, statement or any form of correspondence, the website has long been taken down so no terms of sale available. They will have all of my details as I was a regular customer and had an account with them. I signed a delivery note for the goods and have a copy so there is a record of the sale at their end, the stock was allocated to my order correctly.

    It seems to me that if you are asking this question you probably feel that you want to do the right thing and you probably want IMHO to be told what doing the right thing is.

    Putting it another way, the type of people who think 'I'll keep quiet about this because no one will ever be any the wiser and I get free stock', that type of person would never ever ask the question you have asked. It would never occur to them.

    So, IMHO what you should do is:

    1. Look up the name and address of the Administrators on CH
    2. Make contact with the Administrators

    About 25 years ago paid a cheque to a administrator of a company for £1000
    two months later I realised that the funds were returned to our account I told them about it but they never did anything
    The company owner told me he was pot broke and had no idea what he was going to do
    About 6 weeks later a delivery turns up here for a farm in Cornwall and a name I recognised
    Turns out with the very small amount of change in his pocket he brought a farm

    Dont put to much of your time into it If they ask for it pay it but dont worry to much

    I take the view that we are not there to wipe the bottoms of every disorganised idiot who cannot issue an orderly and legal invoice within the required seven years. Running a business is all about keeping good order and good records. If that is too much for someone, they are going to sink beneath the waves, and it is irrelevant whether you remind them or not: they are going to forget or lose several other accounts anyway.

    Check the Administrator's report on CH. Unless they extended, the case should have been closed by now, or migrated to another procedure - likely liquidation.

    If the case is closed & company dissolved then I would move on. If not contact the IP and do a deal.
