I THINK I may now have the majority of my self-assessment return completed. The only issue is, the accountant has all the receipts for items ive bought. I didnt scan them or anything as they wanted paper copies in date order with the spreadsheets so I have no attachments on freeagent.

Thank you very much to everyone who has replied to my posts on this matter.

I can't understand why you would give your accountant spreadsheets rather that access to you FreeAgent records.

It is not a good idea to give your accountant the only copies of receipts. Always keep a record

You don't need the receipts to submit the return. Ask for them back, the accountant shouldn't retain prime records even if they believe you owe them money.

This was first year in business. Lack of experience resulted in choosing an awful accountant company. They requested everything on spreadsheets along with each refepti. This is even though at the time I had QuickBooks which I thought they might want access to but they declined.
Nee accountant for 25/26 uses Freeagent thankfully

No accountant should need paper copies these days. Mine didn't for the last 10 years. What did you do for stuff bought online with e-receipts?

Going forward, always keep e-receipts and scan and save paper receipts/invoices. You don't need to keep the originals (start the file name with the data so they sort in date order in a directory listing). I kept mine only until the accounts were signed off, in case of query (never happened on 10 years).

Also moving forward find an accountant that (a) lives in the 21st century, (b) can take the data from your chosen accounting package or (c) switch to a package that your chosen accountant supports. If you are happy with cloud software then it becomes even easier to share with your accountant.

    I think you mistyped date.

Use the date format yy mm dd so it comes out in order.

So 26 01 12 for today. Always use (or don't use) spaces, otherwise the chronological order is lost.
