Things remain in flux...
I started my first business in 1997. Knowledge-based services. VAT-registered sole trader. I have now (April 2024) formally ceased it.
For anyone who also was a member of that, I was in the SHEA business club in Southampton until it stopped at the start of austerity. It was organised from within a govt's enterprise agency.
I started two more businesses in 2013/2014. One offered services to locals and the other art reproductions. They never achieved any turnover and clearly weren't going anywhere, so I shut them down quickly. It taught me a lot. A different business that started offering the same local services, but with a much better pedigree did not make it either and a local business that had offered art reproductions for a long time and made frames, first was bought and then ceased trading too. So it wasn't me; the local market was too small.
I was a company director for a Ltd, too. I still kept it dormant for years, but closed it down in 2023.
Also, I love sushi and am crazy about pickled ginger. I love chips as well. (That relates to a post to which some trolls responded.)
