Would you enjoy just selling anything or do you have passion for something?
Once you know what you want to sell do your research competitions wise
Take some time and go to trade shows to research you products and find good suppliers...
Perhaps some trade show would help where there are a lot of gift businesses etc.
With right approach, design and stand you should catch people attention.

Trade show would be ideal if you get some trading accounts with wholesalers domestic or abroad you would be informed of discontinued items on regular basis.
However if you sale on ebay trading with companies abroad would be the best!
I would suggest a part time job in the mean time as not everything goes to plan with startups.
