I agree. If you take it to the extreme and consider an example of a person working 1 hour a day from Mon-Fri, HR are saying they are only entitled to 3.5 days whereas I think most people on here would say it is 28 days. The adjustment for shorter days just should not apply in my eyes.
Of...
UPDATE:
New response from HR.... It's the part that is underlined that I disagree with (and probably most people on here). Do we have a case for taking this to ACAS?
Calculating annual leave for part-time employees can be a bit tricky, but here's a straightforward method:
Determine the...
Thanks for replies all. I do agree with everyone on here.
I think HR maybe have looked at info like at the bottom of this table...
" if someone works two half-days, that would total one day, and therefore their annual leave entitlement would be 5.6 days over the year."
This is from the...
Hey all,
I have what should be a very simple statutory holiday allowance calculation that seemingly nobody can agree on! The employee in question works the following pattern:
Mon: 8am to 1pm
Tue: 8am to 1pm
Wed: 8am to 1pm
Thurs: 8am to 1pm
So, 20 hrs per week part time, working 4 days. The...
Hey all,
We run a UK electronics repair company and often have to procure spare parts like small electronic components from the USA. We usually buy from large global distributors such as Mouser, Digikey, Online Components etc. The arrive in the UK by whichever carrier the supplier has used to...
Well after 5 pages of comments I thought I’d better conclude this. We had the meeting. Arranged a taxi for the employees who were worried about insurance. No cucumbers were harmed.
You don’t mention how many staff you have but £500 a month sounds like a crazy amount of money to me.
As above, I would either do payroll yourself which is really quite simple through Payroo or Xero / Quickbooks or use a payroll agent. The key thing is to separate out your ct / annual returns...
I’d like to move the debate along to celebratory gatherings like a xmas meal at a restaurant or a retirement do. All the staff went to a local pub quite recently for the latter and drove their own vehicles. We did actually talk about work a bit at the gathering. Should I in fact advised them...
At what point did I complain? I just want to fully understand the legalities of it. It seems pretty clear now that this would be classed as business use. What I am still a little unclear on is if they were allowed to finish early to attend the meeting as a social occasion (which it partly is)...
???.
We are actually putting on food as well. OK, what if I let them finish early so that their journey is not compulsory. Would it then fit into social / pleasure ???
All our staff are office based from a single location so there has never been a requirement to cover their cars for business. I just thought it was a bit of a grey area as the travel is not part of their job. But I agree it's hard to see how it wouldn't be classed as business use.
Strangely...
