Agree with the above; it does sound like they are trying to just reduce payments to you and you cannot just not charge VAT. It is common business practice to quote prices ex-VAT, particularly when both companies are VAT registered. I would re-submit your invoices as detailed above.
If they...
Apologies for the delay in replying. Many within the sector are finding the FCAs rules to be onerous and I suspect it will be bigger companies that survive the full authorisation process because of the regulatory overhead. I have no problems with the FCA closing down the unscrupulous...
The new FCA regime is very strict and I suspect many DMCs will go out of business soon. They are currently in the window of applying for full FCA permission (having transferred to interim permission from the OFT).
The FCA are not 'light touch' as the OFT were. They will insist on staff being...

It's just a case of outdated information; he's saying not use anyone without a CCL to chase a consumer debt. No-one has a CCL any more - they don't exist!
We collect a lot of consumer debts for unpaid invoices, rent etc. These are not CCA regulated agreeements and we would not need FCA...
Geoff, what do you mean by 'CCL Cover'? Consumer Credit Licences ceased to exist on the 1st April. Many Debt Collection Agencies will have applied for and hold interim permission from the FCA (as we do) but this is only needed if they are handling Consumer Credit Regulated agreements. Indeed...
Paul Rosser is correct - the key point is what is stated in the contract.
You mention that you have always struggled to get payment from them, but well in excess of a year seems ludicrous. How sure are you that the Company is still solvent?
Under the direct debit guarantee, the payee must give you a certain number of days' notice of change of the DD payment amount. This is usually ten working days but can differ. As it sounds like your payment amount is different each month, they should be issuing invoices 2 weeks before the DD...
