    LED lighting for retail unit?

We switched from 50w G4.halogens to 4w led. Fairly big outlay, but we recouped our outlay in 1 year. (We had 60 of them in the shop). The price of LEDs is coming down all the time. We left the fluorescents alone, and just replace them with LEDs when they blow.

    To stay Open or Close?

Close. You are paying to have a business, it should be paying you. One of my shops barely turns a profit, and I prop it up with my other shops because I am being silly and sentimental about it. After Christmas it is going, because that is the correct thing to do. I hate the thought that it feels...

    PC Compliance Test help

We're with streamline / world pay whatever they call themselves now, with a good deal brokered by the FSB. PCI compliance is handled by them, and is fairly straightforward. Lots of box ticking on forms and a pain in the ar£e, but achievable....

    Giving away a Business

I have a high street shop that I own and oversee, but don't work in, as I have 4 others. This one is a haberdashery & wool shop that has been trading for a couple of years, makes a profit, pays its staff & rent, but doesn't actually bring me any money for my efforts. It needs to be run by its...

    Must be mental...going into retail!

We get a bit of that on big box products...so we stopped stocking them ! At least with kids toys, especially if the kids are there as well, it is all about "here and now". We are also finding an increasing number of folk who are nervous about online shopping when there is a deadline looming...

Taking a customer to small claims court

Personally, I would write it off as a learning curve, and move on. I have been in Independent practice for a fair while, and for a long time have insisted on full payment with the order. We have been bumped a few times for GOS stuff, but no longer have piles of uncollected glasses. Might be nice...

    Must be mental...going into retail!

Hi Marc, good luck with your venture. I started a toy shop (and posted on here about it) in 2009, to try to inject some life into our local high street. We opened our 3rd branch a week ago, and we're still here ! Contact me if you need any tips !!

    Should I tell my manager?

A couple of my staff run their own small businesses in their own time. As an employer, I only have one concern: is their business harming my business ?

Is this possibly the hardest toy brand to source?

Mmm. The quantities that we buy from Lego are no higher than most of our other suppliers. Their own Lego shops (there are only a dozen in the uk) have some products that are exclusive, but sell for the same price as us. The toy industry in general is hard compared to other markets. Virtually all...
