I crossed the threshold last month - told my accountant - and I later got a letter from HMRC to say that I would not have to start with the V.A.T until 1st March - so they give you a month or so to get your head together with it.
Also, re: Google Adwords - check the bottom of the Google Awords invoice - i'm not sure what it means either - so let me know when yo find out!!
