    Startup customer owes 10k

50% (£10k) was due upfront which they paid promptly. No other history.

    Startup customer owes 10k

We have a customer who owes us 10k for software we produced for them. They've gone AWOL. We've tried to call, email and send letters. I highly suspect that this startup (limited company) has minimal cash and essentially nothing in assets but I know the owners have other successful businesses. I...

Importing computer equipment from the US for use in our company

Thanks for breaking it down @Scalloway. The wording on the HMRC site is clearly intended for people with more knowledge on the subject than me. @YahBuilds2018: in your situation I would strongly recommend registering for VAT, importing and trying to streamline the process as much as possible...

Importing computer equipment from the US for use in our company

So the only additional paperwork is what HMRC send me - that's what I needed to know, thanks. If we were to do this more often, is there anything simple we can do to eliminate the delay of HMRC holding it and sending us a request for payment by paying them in advance?

Importing computer equipment from the US for use in our company

I would like to purchase computer equipment for use in our company. The vendor has separate websites that cater to the UK market and to the USA market. We are able to access a substantial discount on the USA website, which should save us a lot, even considering the need to fork out a bit more...

    Small translation job + notarisation

I'm looking (in a personal capacity) for a company that can translate: A UK birth certificate, A UK marriage certificate, Two very short (~50 words) letters in English, A one-page utility bill (~50 words). into French. The translations need to be notarised as well. If you can handle this...

    Experiences with Xero Payroll?

We ended up going with Xero Payroll. Parts of the setup were a bit confusing but now it's set up, it's very easy to do the pay runs. Glad I did it.

Difference Between VPS and Cloud Servers?

In general, "cloud" is a marketing buzzword. Pick a hosting company based on their track record. If it makes shopping around easier, you can replace "cloud" with "web" cloud hosting -> web hosting cloud server -> web server ...

    Employers Reference

I don't think it's worth investing time in this. There's no obligation to do anything and filling out the form is only going to stir the metaphorical pot and waste your time. Don't bother with their form - and if they call or email just give them the start and finish dates and leave it there.

    Experiences with Xero Payroll?

Because I have to tally up the hours for one our our employees and actually send the payments out, it seems like I might as well spend the extra few minutes doing the pay runs. Thanks for clearing that up, Glenn. Seems like my accountant overstated how complex it is.

    Experiences with Xero Payroll?

Thanks, Glenn. I'm asking specifically in the context of Xero Payroll. If I spend 5 minutes a month with Xero Payroll (before the deadlines), do I have anything to worry about? It seems to take care of RTI, Auto Enrolment etc.

    Experiences with Xero Payroll?

We have 7 employees: - 2 50:50 shareholders whose salaries and dividends depend on how the company is doing - 1 part time employee who completes a time sheet and is paid by the hour - 4 full time salaried employees who are paid the same every month Our accountant has been doing our payroll so...

    Revolut for business?

I got halfway through the application when I was actually shown the pricing. At £25 per month you need to do a lot of volume for it to be worthwhile. If you do enough volume then I would absolutely go for it. Transferwise has a very similar product. Much like Revolut for Business, their product...

Office 365 : buy direct or from ISP?

Direct will probably (?) be slightly cheaper but if you ever need to speak to them, you'll get a call centre in India.

Reserving a ltd company name to eventually change to it

Go to the toilet more often? :) I think I got ahead of myself when I first posted this. I'm still not sure whether to change the company name at Companies House, though. I would prefer to change it and I don't see any benefit of separating the brand and the company. However, I can imagine it...
