If you are comfortable working with it you could try using Hijack This to find out if there are spyware programs, or browser hijacks that you have yet to find.
For future use you might also consider putting a clause on your receipt or contract that work is as is, and that liability is limited to the cost of the work done. That way you won't be out more than they paid you.
