How do I go about protecting my company's name?

How do I go about protecting my company's name so that nobody else can start up their own business in the city I live in and call themselves the same name? The first word of my company's name is the city I live in then the service I offer. I had a look online but there seems to be different...

    Who pays for breakages?

Fully aware of that, but my premium will go up and up if I'm regularly claiming for kids damaging things.

    Who pays for breakages?

I run a small music school from a building which I rent. My instruments and computers are insured but an incident yesterday made me wonder what would happen if a student caused expensive damage to an instrument? Should I have something written in my terms & conditions that all breakages have...

    PayPal dispute taking months.

It was from my PayPal balance.

    PayPal dispute taking months.

In February I bought an item online and paid for it using PayPal. The item turned out to be fake and the seller didn't want to know (it was on eBay) and refused a refund. I should have twigged before I bought as I now see the word 'business' in his profile isn't even spelled properly, plus...

In Scotland, do commercial building owners need to pay business rates on empty properties?

Thanks for your answer. I don't pay business rates as the space I rent is very small and below the rateable value.

In Scotland, do commercial building owners need to pay business rates on empty properties?

In Scotland, do commercial building owners need to pay business rates on empty properties? In the building I rent a small space in, there are a few floors empty and have been for years (due to water ingress in the building resulting in the suites being in a bad state of disrepair) and I...

    Terms and Conditions

I run a small tutoring business and I'm updating my terms & conditions at the moment. I would like to add a paragraph at the bottom of them saying I reserve the right to change them (is it ok to do this?) but not sure how to word it. It would really only apply to the part where I state how...

    Is a typed signature acceptable?

I sent out my T&Cs to a customer and he emailed them back signed, but the signature is his name typed rather than hand written. Is this ok or does it need to be signed by hand, either digitally or on the actual paper? Thanks.

    PAT Testing?

I own a small tutoring business and have electrical equipment in an office type building that I rent, and my students have lessons here and use the equipment. Do I need to have my electric devices PAT tested, and if so, how often? I'm in Scotland, if that makes a difference. I looked online...

BT price rise two months after I've signed a 24 month contract.

I'm pretty sure it's just the business side they are closing/have closed as I received notification from them at the start of the year that they were closing and transferring their business customers to BT. Shame as I found PlusNet excellent and had no issues. Yes, I should have read the...

BT price rise two months after I've signed a 24 month contract.

Thanks everyone for the replies. Have looked at the contract and it says in the small print "we can change our prices under these terms", so I guess I don't have a leg to stand on. Now wishing I'd gone through the contract with a fine tooth comb. Lesson learned.

BT price rise two months after I've signed a 24 month contract.

I recently signed up with BT as a new business broadband customer after being with PlusNet who are apparently closing. My first two bills were correct as per the contract, but then my recent bill is for much more than what the contract stated the monthly charge was to be. I spoke to someone...

Contact form or email link on website for customers?

I have a contact form on my website, but often when I reply to customer's questions using the email address they provide, it goes to their spam box (I'm only just finding this out as a couple of people have told me). I'm using a Gmail account. Would I be better to get rid of the contact form...

    A cleaning lady has appeared!

Thanks. No I didn't but that's something I need to remember, thanks for that. Would a shared cost be worked out per square foot? Or is there another way these things are calculated?
