    Giving bank details to Quickbooks

Hi. Looking at Quickbooks I see that they offer an option of linking to your bank account. However they require all your security details in order to do this. Is this a safe or sensible thing to do? I know Quickbooks are well established but is it a risky thing to pass on these details in...

Internet phone line for business calls

Hi. I am reluctant to use my home phone number as a contact number for my new online store. How do I go about getting a separate number over the internet? Do I just contact my provider how does it work? Also, can I set up some sort of voicemail system for times when I am not at home? Thank you!

    Best postal delivery system

Hi I am just about to launch my online store selling homewares and gifts, everything from greeting cards to large throws. Can someone please advise me of the best, most efficient, but also cheapest method of posting the items? Initially I expect the orders will be fairly slow, perhaps just a...

Avoiding bank charges for making international payments

Thanks for the advice. I did do a few transfers with Barclays online but I still got charged the £15 by the way. Did I miss something I wonder?

Avoiding bank charges for making international payments

Can someone please advise me? I will be buying stock from Irish suppliers for my ecommerce site which I am currently setting up. The only problem is every transaction incurs a fairly hefty bank charge (£15). I was thinking of opening an account in Ireland, putting a sum of money in it and...

    VAT on imported goods

Thank you again. I feel a bit foolish asking some of these questions but the brilliant thing is I always get them answered!

    VAT on imported goods

I have just been a bit surprised because the VAT gets added on at the end and I thought the price shown for each item would include VAT so I haven't really been getting a true impression of the cost. Is it done differently business to business compared to with an ordinary customer?

    VAT on imported goods

Hi. I am setting up a business which involves importing goods from Ireland. Do I need to pay the VAT the suppliers are asking for? Clearly I can't claim it back myself but I guess I have to pay it anyway as they are registered? Thanks.

Which book keeping system is best?

I have yet to meet with two web designers so I haven't decided on payment methods yet but I imagine I will use PayPal. I won't be using eBay.

Which book keeping system is best?

Thank you so much for your replies. As you can tell I don't know much at the moment. If I can do free trials with a couple of packages I will. I can see how important it will be to be able to access records from any device.

Which book keeping system is best?

Hi. I am just starting out with an online shop selling homewares and I haven't got a clue about book keeping but know I will have to get on top of it from the start. I assumed I would use Excel, at least at first, while I can manage things on my own. I have now seen references to Quick Books...

    Buying stock upfront versus dropshipping

Thank you antp. As I am doing this alone I do wonder how I will ever go on holiday once it is up and running I must say!

    Buying stock upfront versus dropshipping

Hi again. Thanks for your replies and Jason L thanks for the link to the previous thread which was very useful. My gut feeling is to get the stock in upfront so I have the security of knowing I can immediately fulfil an order but as time goes on look to set up arrangements with suppliers I...

    Buying stock upfront versus dropshipping

I am hoping to set up an online shop selling gifts and items for the home. I can't decide at the moment whether to stock fewer, more carefully chosen items and buy upfront or to try to be more of a market place (thus giving the customer much more choice) and trying to get the supplier to post...
