Wow this thread provides interesting reading. Looking at those peak rates quoted (80p ish pKWh) now I'm hearing it's 28p or so? Massive fluctuations for what we took for granted was a benign utility cost.o_O
I am fortunate in that we are in a 2 year fix to 2024.
I hope any of you businesses...
We've outsourced our payroll to an external accountant since we set up twenty years ago (ecommerce).
We have 25 employees.
Think we're a pretty 'standard' business apart from two sales-team members who get a sales commission on top of their salaries.
We have the usual variables - overtime...
Update:
I double-checked the local Amazon site and it is going up from approx £3m to £4m RV.
A 27% increase which will kick in 01/04/23 due to the size of the building.
I'm quite chuffed the govt has found a way to tax this behemoth.
But as an Amazon reseller I fear they'll be looking to take...
As an enthusiastic user of this board could I ask that we try to move on from the controversies created by this particular thread. I appreciate that is has stirred up considerable feelings but there must be other areas of business to discuss - especially in the current difficult environment...
Bit of an update on the new Business Rates situation.
Any increase is going to be capped.
For us this means our bill will only be going up 15% rather than the 31% I feared.
so for us with our units with RV going from £36k to £48k
23/24 15% increase
24/25 25% increase
26/27 31% increase...
I don't get this. Surely the £billions of extra tax created by this extra fuel duty are part of the plan to fill the 'black hole'. Don't they have to implement this or there will be a shortfall?
i guess they may be gambling on the price of petrol dropping by the implementation date so nobody...
Take a look at your new business rates valuation.

This wasn't mentioned at all in the budget but new 2023 values were listed last night - warehouses are increasing by an average of 27%o_O
(I appreciate there is a separate thread on this on the board but I just thought it was...
I am a bit shocked by it all.
Just came in from walking the dog thinking about it.
There's going to be a complete 're-modelling' of the commercial landscape isn't there?
My business is fortunate - banked many years of successful profits during the good times and we're in a strong position...

I can't ever remember being hit by such a rise before?
Guess I've had it easy being an ecommerce operator for the last 17 years but this new 'tax' will shock many.
Nice to see Amazon getting a kicking mind.....let's see them squirm out of this tax - not easy to hide their HUGE...
Great post Anonuk.
Just checked ours.....raising by 31% in April 2023
I only found this information after reading comments around today's budget saying that an Online Sales Tax was not now being proceeded with but that 'distribution sheds' would be hammered instead.
Not sure if my ecommerce...
Not much news in the UK regarding an update on state of Christmas retail sales.
Probably a case of keeping 'fingers crossed' that all will be ok and a consensus to talk things up as much as possible.
Stateside they seem to be a bit more on the pulse of things.
Target the huge discount store...
"People are spreading their Christmas purchases across three or four pay days, rather than relying on cash that they have in hand in December," George Weston, the CEO of Primark-owner Associated British Foods
Katie Bickerstaffe, joint M&S CEO, told reporters that its customers had already...
Given that ocean freight from China to UK was still at high demand/high cost as recently as June it would suggest that retailer Christmas goods stockholdings are high?
(freight rates have now collapsed from $8000 to $2500 in just 2 months).
Now it is the critical 4 weeks for many retail...
