We were asked (two directors) to supply service bills and passports when buying and selling a property on behalf of the company. This was with a solicitor that we have been using for years. Never been asked as part of a private purchase/sale though.
And the reciever will have to pay tax on the share value (as this will be classed as a benefit), so you cannot give for free as the tax man will want a cut. I know this as I have recently been through the same process.
