Is the thank you system here a waste of time?

What exactly is the point of the thank you system here?
I thought it was to be used when thanking posters of exceptionally good posts.
This thread sums up just how silly it is, and in my opinion waters down the use of it,

Can we have guidlines for what it should be used for.

    Hi there,

I think you're right - that's not quite what it was intended for!

The 'Thanks' system is to identify particularly useful and informative posts and to attribute these to their author - rather than a personal thank you.

We're looking at how to show the 'most Thanked' posts in the search (currently it just shows you them in reverse date order). As you can imagine, personal 'thank you's would reduce the usefulness of this feature.

Still, always nice to see a decent exchange of pleasantries! ;)

    Cheers,
    Darren

    I agree entirely.

Perhaps we should rename it the "Group Hug" system.

There is nothing wrong with being nice to each other but does the current system fulfil any real useful function on this forum?

    Regards

I think it would be a bit unfair to earl if negative reps were allowed :)

Lmao; its not usually that easy though, if you give negative rep you get doc'ed a point as well... so it really has to be worth it... also means that new members with zero rep can't go around spam rep'ing everyone.

    Being unusually serious...

I think the Thanks system is quite a refreshing approach. Seen so many forums where the reward system is to be part of the cliche. It is great to help people and if they thank you well that is a bit of a bonus.

I agree, some thank too much. But I can't see a way to solve that, thanking someone is a personal choice.

    That said....

I would like to thank my internet company for allowing me to post this reply. I would like to thank my Mum and Dad for errr....I would like to thank all my fans and I would like to thank my alarm clock for waking me up....ooooh flowers.....err....could I swap them for a watch!?

Thank you for reading this post ;)

Just a quick thought is there any chance that we can have a puke button? It would be very useful for some threads. Anyone up to second this, I would suggest that this button is made anonymous to save those on the forum that suffer from unusually high levels of paranoia.:p

How about a gun one so we can shoot the ungrateful s*** who don't thank us for our amazing and insightful comments?? :D
