So, you make an incredibly patronising remark and, if someone doesn't appreciate it, they're "an arse"?

I guess, in the world you live in, you could go up to a random stranger, tell him his wife is a whore and, if he tells you to go "f" yourself, it just shows what an "arse" he is?

Maybe you should take some responsibility for the way you talk to people?

If you ever learn how to engage people in polite debate, I'm up for it. If you want to be patronising to anyone who doesn't see things your way... that's not "polite debate".

Steve

Fella the only skill you've demonstrated on here is the ability to turn anything into a fight. Time and time again you do it, so don't point fingers at me over it.

You're an argumentative <removed>. Deal with it because it's true. If I'm not going to "politely debate" with you I'll just lower myself to treating you the way you treat others and see how you like it for a change.

My guess is that you'll do a "logos" and just elect not to be online when you hear something you don't like.

give me a moped anyday for fast city travel.

And i will smile smuggly in the freezing cold and driving rain cant wear are suit on one of them!:)

Unfortunately car drivers have never had to take a proper test.

hence why more people have been killed in road accidents than were killed in WW2.

Earl[/quote]

how many people do you know that havnt taken a test to drive a car?!?

The wording was a proper test.

Very few who take the UK driving test are fit or trained to drive a motor vehicle.

Hence the astounding accident rates for newly tested drivers.

Thread starts off with the price of fuel being high and ends up with people bashing - the fact is that whether cars are gas guzzlers or 4x4's, or even the humble Kia, 40 years give or take the oil will be almost deplenished and we will be living in a world of clipper ships and horse and cart.

I think the thing we all forget is that most of us were born in a time when cars were already here, and have been since we have been alive, and so therefore logically we assume they will always be there. We are wrong. Times move on, and natural resources eventually run out.

Tee hee, I'll raise you for ten that some Audis are "proper cars" :)

Cars are meant to transport people in comfort.

Hence audi's and most Beemers do not qualify.

Most of the cheaper German cars are built with there roads in mind not the crap we have in the UK.

On motorways they may seem fine as any car will ride well on a smooth road.( The irony being that the very thing thats makes the suspension so harsh and the road holding good is not required on motorways.:p)

I am betting those that moan most about fuel costs are gas guzzler drivers.

Easy solution buy a proper car.:)

Haha that's funny.

Yes I drive what you would call a "gas guzzler." I drive my van to work at least three days per week though because it's only 12 miles each way.

Audis and Beemers are far from uncomfortable so I'm not sure what you base that comment upon. Are you comparing it to a Ford or Vauxhall?

I'd take the ride I have (which I can change at the flick of a button to suit how I'm driving) over the ride in a Ford or Vauxhall any day of the week.

I take it you have never owned a comfortable car.:)

"Of course one of the most common criticisms of Audi models – particularly S line versions – is the firm ride quality.

It’s something Audi has looked to address, with the improved A4 getting more finely tuned dampers and changes to the rear suspension.

We only drive SE models so we’re unable to say what S line models will be like on UK roads, but first impressions are that the A4 is more forgiving than before and deals much better with bumpy roads."

What makes me chuckle is that the vast majority of posts that I make are based upon my own experiences. Either good or bad. They are not based upon "what he said" or "what she said."

I'd consider myself to be a failure in life if the best grounding and validation for my opinions was other peoples' experiences.

That's a sad place to be.

Again you're basing your posts upon other peoples' opinions. You have no experience first hand of this.

May I suggest that you gain some experience yourself before quoting other people because you might actually surprise yourself when you discover that other people are wrong?

Blimey don't let the facts interfere with your opinions.:D:D:D

As for experience over 55 years and driven or owned nearly everything that moves.

Most comfortable car owned Jaguar XJ.

Least comfortable Ferrari 348.:)

So it took my post to get you to give your own experiences? So why rely on quoting other people until I called you out on it huh?

My point stands. Talk about your own experiences, which must be huge you old goat. Stop quoting interbabble mate.

I like many others dont have a problem with S-Line suspension and I drive some pretty horiffic roads. I've had one in the past and would have one again.

The price of fuel however, its obscene. I'm currently faced with the choice of either footing the bill of currently 6K a year in fuel to get to the office, or make all my staff redundant and relocate the business closer to home....which would the government prefer as they are forcing the latter.

As for green taxes, bunch of to$$ much like our VED (road tax), its based purely on "green" factors and hence shouldnt be VED at all, it should be green-tax on motorists, it should scrapped and added to fuel, only a penny a litre MAX but then those who use more pay more, those with super efficient or low mileage users pay much much less. Simple and fair.

Transparency would gain the government much more respect.

Both mailine fad cars.;)

I bet you got an Ipod and an Ipad and an Imac ,kind of an I persons my guess.

Earl

Ooooh prepare to have your ass handed to you, and at least have the good grace to admit it when you do.

I don't have an iphone I have a Blackberry.
I don't have an iPod.
I don't have an iPad or any kind of laptop.
I don't have an iMac I use an HP Workstation as a PC.

As you well know the kind of Audi I drive is also hardly a "fad" car. So, over to you for the apology- Do I hear the "s" word? Go on surprise me.

Not at all .

My concern is for the saftey of myself and other road users and the huge amount of scarce resources they use.

Would anyone want to drive round in an agricultural vehicle that guzzles 3 times the fuel of the average car and has a major inherent design fault for passenger transport.

Range Rovers with a 4.4-litre engine have an urban mpg of 12.2 and emit 389g carbon dioxide per kilometre. In contrast, a Ford Mondeo 2-litre fuel-injected saloon has an urban mpg of 25 and emits 190g carbon dioxide. A Smart car emits 138g carbon dioxide.

Alliance Against Urban 4x4s
Urban 4x4s are involved in 25 per cent more accidents than saloon cars and do far more damage.

Churchill Insurance
4x4 drivers are 27 per cent more likely to be at fault in the event of an accident than saloon car drivers.

Admiral Insurance
If a pedestrian is hit by a 4x4 they are twice as likely to be killed than if they were hit by a saloon car.

New Scientist
Only 5 per cent of 4x4s are ever taken off-road.

Alliance Against Urban 4x4s
Sales of 4x4s grew by 12.8 per cent in 2004, to 179,000, more than double the number sold a decade ago.

Department of Transport, 2005
Drivers of 4x4s are most likely to have been in an argument with traffic wardens (22 per cent), compared with 6 per cent of saloon car drivers.

RAC Foundation, 2004
The risk of a fatal roll-over crash is twice as high for 4x4s as it is for a saloon car.

Come green laning in our clubs land rovers for a day and you will be buying a land rover before the year is out...

There is nothing I despise more than groups like the Alliance Against (Urban) ALL 4x4's.

Bloody nazis without a clue, the come only second to the Ramblers Association who pushed through NERC without proper consultation.

100% agree. The ramblers small mindedness baffles me. They want to walk on every scrap of land. They dislike 4x4s and get angry at having to move over and share the countryside.
They fail to understand that they have access to 98% of all lanes we could once drive.
How often do ramblers take w truck of gravel to fill holes, cut back branches to keep the track open?

Upvote 0
I've noticed that since they took most of our greenlanes away the access along many places I walk (not a rambler though!) is much much worse as you rightly say it was maintained by people with 4x4's....

I just hope one day when they cant walk their treasured lanes they may request our return to keep the countryside accessable.

REMEMBER THIS I POSTED LAST YEAR

from the sun newpaper 3rd june 2011
FROM THE SUN NEWSPAPERS

DATED

3rd-JUNE-2011

Chaos erupted in central London last night, as upto 150 vehicles queued all night at the last few petrol stations with fuel still for sale, now priced at £ 4.99 per litre

One man was killed as he tried to jump the queue's and 18 were admitted to the last open 24hr emergency hospital in central London where petrol was being sold at over £ 5.95 per litre

Paramedic David Davidson who was first on the seen said

" there was just people fighting over the pumps it's was like watching a film with no ending but it has now cost one man his life, I don't know what going to happen next week"
BP have now closed this station as it's also run dry

Asda, Tesco and Morrison's have today imposed a food restriction of £ 25.00 spend per household due to only 1 delivery per day,

Mr Peterson from Asda said "the £ 25.00 restriction is here to stay and all on-line orders have now been stopped, food is now at a premium and it's now too late to start thinking of stocking up the cupboards and the freezers"

The government have now called on the armed forces to control the streets, to keep more control due to threats of riots, police are stretched with only 50% of all vehicles in service

The government said in December 2010 were all in this together
Well we are now

I'll tell you what are uncomfortable though. Mercedes C-Class, particularly the 220!.

Never again!

A mate has got the new Mondeo Ecodrive, 1.6 diesel thing. He had a 2.0 tdci Mondeo.
He saves 4 mpg according to the computer on a full tank, doing the same journeys as he was previously.

Dunno about you, but for the 80 quid a month Tax he is better off, I'd rather have the 2.0 tdci...

£6.66 a gallon here....... That's ominous! Was just speaking to an American friend who has just sold his 6L Jeep and got a Kia Cee'd (sp?) because fuel is $3.36 a gallon near him, And yes I gave him a verbal slapping.

Proper cars maybe - but for sure have overtaken the beemer for being driven by tail gating boy racers.

Lets get that price higher - free up the roads - and throw in Tolls on all motorways. Only the rich and royalty should really be allowed to waft along to their destinations surely?
