The car thread

L

Lee Jones Jnr

As threads often go off topic whenever a car is mentioned I thought it would be a good idea to have a dedicated thread in order to help myself and others resist the urge to hijack other threads.

Mods please do not move to time out, I have posted in General so that it doesn't disappear.

I'll start - Movietub, what's the current status of your fat bottomed Japanese girl? Have you ordered one/started looking?

I'm paying over £400 a month finance over 2 cars. Thinking of getting shot of them buying one decent one and a cheap van.

Porsche caymen s
or
Landrover discovery.

Fiesta van/206/something

I had a Cayman S, really enjoyed it. It handles really well, better than most cars at any price. Strange two cars to have together on a shortlist!

Wife wrote of her clio sport driving to fast round a sharp bend ending up in a field.

So have got her a clio diesel 86 bhp.

70 mpg and £20 road tax.

Wisdom only comes with age.:p

Earl

Your thinking of incontinence.

I wouldn't dream of driving a sporty car when I reach the age that requires a groan to get out of a chair. I will still enjoy cars I believe, but will be looking for something more comfortable.

You can get one for £35-40k now, beautiful car. The interior in particular is fabulous, although the gauges take a little getting used to.

Aston Martin's are still riddled with electrical problems. Be very careful. I'm not fan of the AMV8 as i don't believe it does anything that it was supposedly created to do. The AMV12 is the car that Aston claimed the V8 would be. The V12 being a wonderful car.

No one can drive a sports car in a country with a 70mph speed limit.

Yep driving bumpomobiles is not my idea of fun.:|

Earl

Couldn't agree more. Majority of sports car owners won't get near a race track or take them on journeys where they can be actually used properly. Most of them will be parked outside Daddies kitchen factory and driven up and down high streets at night by people trying to pass them off as their own.

I would bet more than 90% of all sports cars sold in the UK are driven simply on UK roads and nothing else. Pointless and a complete waste.

Might as well buy something comfortable.

Oh, Earl, you haven't always felt that way have you. Besides which Oulton Park is only a hop, skip and jump away from me.

(I have heard that some people occasionally break the speed limit on certain roads but I have no proof)

Listen laddie when I first started driving there was no speed limit so we had a good few years banging up the M1 at a fair old lick in jags and even had a jensen 541 fo a short while and an allard.

Blimey those were the days when you could actualy enjoy driving.

And an e-type jag was just 2k new.:D

Still got the Panda, had it for nearly 9 months now. Done around 2270 miles in it now. The engine is loosening up so it is becoming nicer to drive, the only issue is a clicking sound sometimes when I use the clutch so I might mention it the dealer when it goes for its first service in May.

It is great not to have a single day of work because of car trouble though :)

Aston used to sell a DB for £5500 a customer said I'm not paying that I'll buy one at cost. Ok said the man at Aston that'll be £7000.

It sounds like small change now. When My folks bought their first house for just over £2000 Interest was at 17%.

I have a skoda for work

I think that those figures might be a few years apart.

Base rate hit 17% in the early 1980s. (And don't I remember it well. :( ) By then, £2000 would have bought you a conveniently located property - an outside toilet in estate agent speak.

Houses were £2 - 3000 in the fifties

I only use the car to collect PCs from customers who live within about 4 miles from me :).Also been using it a lot more since October when my two years were up.

I do around 70-120 miles a week now.
