Business Broadband

I run my business from home and was just about to sign up for BT business broad band when I spotted the horror stories posted on the forum.

I need to move on from domestic broadband because I can't afford another break down of service during which I am fobbed off for days by someone telling me that I shouldn't be running a business off a domestic account and therefore have no come back when the system fails.

I have one PC which will be wired in (sorry I don't know the technical term) along with one wireless PC and one wireless lap top.

I want to get a new telephone line put in so I can have the business broad band running off that line along with the telephone for the business which will keep the domestic line for normal home phone calls.

Hubby uses the internet to download music etc on an evening so I need to take that in to account.

Can any one recommend a company who is reliable for business broadband please?

Sorry if I've left out any vital info.

I can whole heartedly recommend fast.co.uk. I use them for business, and they have been excellent - for the entire 2.5 years. I have had one period of downtime that I can remember, and that was fixed within minutes.

No call center queueing at fast.co.uk - I always get through to a human. They are happy to advise you on setting up a new router if needed. And they are top of the ISPReview Customer Service tables - http://www.ispreview.co.uk/

On a technical note, they have provided me with a fantastic service, by doing some technical things I wouldn't expect a normal company to understand, or do without a charge.

They get my full recommendation!

Then you need to look at one of the services that provides a guaranteed fault resolution time. Zen, IDNet and Entanet spring to mind.

There is really no technical difference between 'domestic' and 'business' broadband, other than price. The difference is in how the provider deals with problems.

i use aol. i got them down to 9.99 a month on the gold contract because i said i had sky and that they are offering exactly the same service for 9.99 and that i wanted my pac code straight away so that i could move over asap. they said they would match the offer and gave me 2 months free as a gesture of good will. i have never had any downtime problems and i use the internet 24/7. i had virgin in 2 of my apartments and cancelled it in one of them because the service was poor virgin and tiscali are at the bottom of my lists. personally i think bt is a bit overpriced. my mums company uses a company called be broadband and they offer a 24mbps connection (providing on telephone line) they have 6 computers hooked upto it aswell as cctv and they never have problems with them. they switched from bt because they wasnt happy with the service.

I'd give ICUK a go, always get straight through to a person, no messages, no holding and the same people can help you with billing or technical. I have even had email replies from them at 8pm on bank holidays (no kidding!).

They are also continually in the top 10 at ISP review.

If you want a decent business service you need to make sure your BT line is a business one and that the broadband provider you go with can sell you enhanced care. Having both those options will decrease the time to fix fault's by BT. They will even come out at 10pm at night if the line breaks!

The enhanced care gives a guaranteed Service Level Agreement including response times to the end user.

I would have a word with Zen :)

If you don't like BT you would have to go with a cable provider!

Unless you fancy your chances with a provider that takes BT wholesale

I would always stick with BT however bad it gets and touch wood I have always found them OK... but the problem with moving away from BT is that when you get a problem using another ISP the you get to the following scenario -

BT blames your ISP
ISP blames BT

Nothing then ever gets done and you are then phoning the both of them!

Trust me been there and got the badges - stick with BT

We have had terrible BT ADSL problems, from them not been able to start the service until two weeks after the install date, to the service being very slow. As a business user I had to speak to someone in Mumbai who would then transfer me to a UK operator, then finding that they shut a 6pm.

Crap.

We are now with Chess Telecom and very happy.

Go for Zen.

I can't understand why people try and save a few pence a day on a business broadband connection: a connection at £30/month is about 50p a day more than one at £15/month. Radical under capitalization perhaps? Blige, save another 50p a day on cheapo hosting and your bottom line is assured! (A bit French Pres. eh? Sarky).

I had two lots of line trouble last year, basically due to old wiring. BT were great; next day fixes and both times the engineers called the day after it was fixed to check everything was OK. (BT Business lines).

Good Evening all,

After being pointed in the general direction of this thread by a good friend of mine, and enjoying the community spirit that seems to flow in these forums, I felt I would introduce and maybe offer some solutions from ourselves for business customers.

Aquiss has been trading for nearly 3 years, and in that time our business customers include and remain with us, including Sun Microsystems, SpecSavers, Fisher Scientifc, Interfax, John Deere, Westminster City Council to name but a few. We are therefore well placed to offer solutions for any business setup or concepts.

Details of our offerings can be found on our web site (address in my profile) or if you want to personally give me a call and have a chat, feel free to do so on 01746 708090. Likewise feel free to PM me here.

Definately Zen, good reliable connection, and the best thing is, if you need to ring up, its an 0845 number, you get through FAST, and, very best of all, you get a technical person in ENGLAND ! not some muppet in a far off land who's technical abilites only stretch to reading instructions on reinstalling modem drivers.
