Uk2.net

Anybody had any experience with these people. I have twice tried to set up a 14 day trial ecommerce site with them and apart from 1 email saying 'your account is being set up and you will receive your login details shortly', I seem to wait forever to get a response from them.

Crap service.

I wouldn't touch UK2 with an infinitely long bargepole; they are possibly the worst providers of hosting and related paraphernalia. They recently rebranded a lot of their site but their back end systems are still awful accompanied by staff who just don't give a damn. GRR!

They use to be really good, but apparently they've been bought out now. Even customers that only have their free email accounts are having problems, All their services seem to be patchy at best at the mo.

Hedgehog, how about a free trial with "do your own site" ?
Their customer service is excellent, they have always responded to my queries within the hour, the site builder has great functionality and the image optimiser is great for getting all your pictures right.
They have an examples page where you can see other peoples sites and I have just been included in that list:) . I'm very happy up to yet and they are always adding new features, the ability to have discount codes being the latest.

Yes I have a site hosted with Carl, excellent service :)

This site is for my wife. I don't want to go down the route of a full blown site like Hedgehog Toys but so I just looked around for a basic package that she could use that didn't cost the earth. UK2 are doing a site for £9.99 a month which caught my eye but after the crap service I have received I have given it the elbow before even trying it .

Hi,
I disagree with most comments on this thread apart from Blown aways.
Uk2 are going through an augmentation at present, they are investing in more staff and re-training existing staff.
Technical wise they have the most solid network in the industry which is what serious mission critical websites need, they are purchasing more servers and switches and are investing heavily in other new technology.
This i see as a positive sign from a company that is trying to shrug of its bad press from many years ago.

All hosting companies have problems, it's the nature of the game, but the public who spend £10 a month + a free trial on a shared package love to attack them.

Carl's service at CSN is good i hear but he is not dealing with 100's of new customers a day signing up, if he did then maybe his great service would have the odd glitch.

When you expand at the rate that Uk2 are then you have to rely on other staff performing certain duties, this will invariably lead to a small number of problems, Uk2 customer complaints is small in comparison to their customer base, but they still recognise that some customers are still complaining and are doing something about it.

Carl offers a basic "bronze" package for £28 per year or £2.80 per month...! Can't beat that!

Yes but if the company is that big then they should be able to handle the emails and sign up otherwise it just gets them more disgruntled customers and more bad press. I have emailed them and submitted technical support tickets and have only had 1 response to say they are looking into it and that was nearly 48 hours ago. For crying out loud if you can't handle the work then don't take it on.

As for Carl, he may or may not handle a large volume of clients but he is always 100% top notch when it comes to customer service.

Hi Guys... I had this conversation on another forum and I can't comment about the web hosting sides of things.

However... UK2 has been recently overhauled. Ditlev is the new CEO and he is slowly bringing the company from a pitiful mess to a most desirable one to host your servers with.

I've spoken to him on many an occasion to enquire, complain, and to praise, and every single time he's been e-mailed, he's responded within 24 hours, and has been most helpful and sincere.

Their dedicated servers are what I use them for, and on that aspect they're really a cut above the rest. However, Ditlev and the whole team are really trying hard to turn the company around - and are doing a fantastic job by the way!

If you want, I can PM you his e-mail address and I'm sure he'll sort you out. If not, Carl is your best option - I highly recommend him!

I'd stay away from UK2.

Having trialled a few of their services it came to our attention that when we looked at our bank statements for the previous two months that we had payments going to UK2 for services we had not even requested; they were just part of the 'sign-up' which they didn't list fom the outset and were buried about four links in...excellent!

Anyone but them in my opinion; also RedStation are equally as lame.

Hi lee, This is Bizarre,

I think UK2 are brilliant, maybe for dedicated anyway and then you mention Redstation, i had them when i was on their business shared package before i moved onto a dedicated server, i couldn't believe how good they were and how reliable their shared server was, their support was ace, if i could afford them for dedicated i wouldn't have thought twice.

Oh well, we all experience different fluctuations of service sometimes.

I am a UK2 reseller customer and have been having no problems up until recently. My websites hosted on the UK2 reseller account have been hacked. I first got lots of messages concerning all of my sites on Google's webmaster tools. Here's an example below.

Dear site owner or webmaster of (website),
We recently discovered that some pages on your site look like a probable phishing attack, in which users are encouraged to give up sensitive information such as login credentials or banking information. We have begun showing a warning page to users who visit this site in certain browsers that receive anti-phishing data from Google, as well as users redirected to this site from various Google properties.

We strongly encourage you to investigate this immediately to protect users who are being directed to a suspected phishing attack being hosted on your web site. Although some sites intentionally host such attacks, in many cases the webmaster is unaware because:
1) the site was compromised
2) the site doesn't monitor for malicious user-contributed content
If your site was compromised, it's important to not only remove the content involved in the phishing attack, but to also identify and fix the vulnerability that enabled such content to be placed on your site. We suggest contacting your hosting provider if you are unsure of how to proceed.
Once you've secured your site, and removed the content involved in the suspected phishing attack, or if you believe we have made an error and this is not actually a phishing attack, you can request that the warning be removed by visiting this page, and reporting an "incorrect forgery alert." We will review this request and take the appropriate actions.
Sincerely,
Google Search Quality Team

I contacted UK2 right away by sending support ticket on 14/11/09 and still up until today no response from them.

I then get a message from Google's Adwords team, see below:
Your account 307-229-7384 has been suspended because we've determined that there's a high probability your site may be hosting or distributing malicious software.

I opened another support ticket and have got no response. I then get a 2nd message on my Google webmaster tools, see below:
We recently discovered that some of your pages can cause users to be infected with malicious software. We have begun showing a warning page to users who visit these pages by clicking a search result on Google.com.

At that point I felt no other choice but to call their very expensive premium rate phone number (yesterday). The tech guy didnt have a clue what he was talking about and I finally talked him into deleting all the files and reconfiguring the server completely. That way all virus, malicious software etc will be removed. I know my offline pages are fine because the pages hosted online had extra codes injected by the hackers. My backed up offline codes dont have these. Also I have other sites hosted with other providers and they have NOT been hacked or conatin no form of malicious software. The tech guy said he will do it right away and email me. After waiting, waiting, waiting, I can see the website is still live will all files being hosted and which tells me that the guy did not remove a single file let alone refresh and reconfigure the complete server. I called the UK2 technical team again and the guy says "the support ticketing system has a key and there you will need to wait"... After sending lots of support tickets one after another I decided to give up on that and start phoning and now they are saying I need to wait (even thought I have been phoning the premium number).

I guess I'm posting in this thread because the discussion here is about UK2. If anybody can advise on what I can do next that will be great.

Thanks in advanced

I think UK2 is a hit and miss sort of company. Used them years ago back in the day when they were a bit cowboy ish (in my opinion) (this is going back 6 odd years!)

But I've heard some good stories and some bad stories. I guess thats what you get from such a large company, personally I try to go for the medium sized companies who just have a good rep full stop!
