We are in need of super basic network storage, 250gb. No user management, no fancy stuff - just so each of us can map that drive in Windows and put stuff on that drive. We have switch, so must be network enabled.

NAS or just network hdd?

I have one quite old IOMEGA network drive, but its crap - complicated software, containts folders which cannot be deleted.

All I need - set ip address for that drive, map it, use it.

Any suggestions?

For something basic that you dont need to manage, try a NETGEAR ReadyNAS Duo RND2110.

Comes with a 1TB hard drive (you can add a second and run in RAID 1) and is a neat, quiet, unit.

They are normally around £150+vat, but I would recommend adding a second 1TB hard drive for the RAID fuctionality (should only add another £40-50 ish)

A NAS is a network hard disk.

I've got an old Buffalo Netstation I was very happy with - you don't need to mess around with extra software, it's managed from a web browser and you can access files with Windows built-in file sharing. It was reasonably cheap and cheerful - certainly did the job.

I've since upgraded to a Synology - rather more expensive and you have to buy and fit the disk separately but very much the Rolls-Royce of NAS boxes.
