Can anyone recommend a low cost web hosting service?

I've been with JustHost for over a year now and it's becoming painful to deal with them. I've registered or tried to register around 7 new domains in the last couple of weeks and every time, cPanel times out and I have to email their billing team to get them to do it which means waiting for up to 48 hours.

All I'm really after is somewhere to host my main site, point a series of other domains to it and some half decent site building software to develop my content. JustHost use RVsitebuilder and it's not pleasant to use!

Any recommendations from users NOT hosters would be greatly appreciated?!

wordpress, wordpress, wordpress.

Ditch RV and get your site built in wordpress (I can do this for £99), you will then have full control over the site, you can edit the theme within a few clicks and add as many plugins as you wish.

I am not 100% sure how many domains you can add to my webhosting but I never recommend adding your domain to your hosting.
I always say register with an external company such as 123-reg and then modifying the nameservers to point at your web host, then if your webhost goes bust or goes offline you can quickly set up a new host account and just change your domain to the new host.

Thanks for the advice.

I can highly recommend Vidahost - I've been with several hosts, but will stick with these guys. Good prices & good (swift!) help when I've needed it.

Jeff

Just spoken to them on the phone, very impressed! They seem keen to help out, not hard sell at all and very easy to understand everything that's involved so thanks for that one!

EHosting are very good at the shared server level. Depending on your site's requirements Joomla, Drupal or Wordpress might suit your needs and I'm hearing good things about Concrete5. All open source = free to use.

Thanks, it seems Wordpress maybe the way to go for what I want.

Hi Chris,

I will happily provide you with Free web hosting on my dedicated server for you no catch. Just drop me a message if you are interested.

Kind Regards,

Craig

You clearly didn't read my orginal post, no thanks.

I can second jeff's vote for Vidahost.

Well I'll third that now having had 3 conversations with Seb at Vidahost this afternoon and he followed up with several progress report emails this evening!

He's already moved my main site from JustHost for me and he's transferring my 9 remaining domains across tomorrow so Vidahost have picked up 13 domains because of the SUPERB service I've had from Seb on my first day with them.

Not only is the service fantastic so far, but here are the costs:
  • Hosting from £14.50 PER YEAR!
  • Support is an 0800 number
  • Domain registration for a .co.uk - £5.58 for 2 years
My only concern is where's the catch....?

Because so far, I can't see one....!

Thanks for the input on this thread and if anyone else needs a recommendation, try VIDAHOST!!!!

:)

sorry to hear about your troubles with justhost!
I've been using them as well for about 2 years and I have had a very good experience unlike you.
What I do is register my domains at dreamhost because they offer free privacy for whois lookup.
then I just point the nameservers to my justhost account.
Their suport team have always been helpful and prompt.
The only thing missing would be gzip compression.

I use m8internet and find them great. Each of my sites cost me £1 per year. I was wary to begin with, but I've been with them for years now and have very few issues. Support is only via ticket, but they normally reply quickly.

I have been using one.com for two years now and can recommend them: they provide free hosting with domain name registration starting from £9.95 a year for a small business package. Plus they have live chat instant customer support. Never had a problem with them, the support is fantastic.

Another vote for Vidahost, very friendly bunch and support is amazing :)

I totally agree, very impressed with support and it's all on a freephone number. Email ticket responses are typically 10 minutes and that's 24 x 7.

Vidahost all the way.

Cheers Jim, I now have 13 domains with them.

Nice to see that there have been more recommendations for Vidahost than anyone else by some margin and I must say that 5 days in to my relationship with them, I'm now a big fan!

They've made the whole process of switching my live sites and domains over so easy and they have even helped me get JustHost support to fix a few issues. I realise that I could probably find somewhere else a few pounds a year cheaper but that leve cost really doesn't matter when you're trying to sort something out that can affect your business!

Go Vidahost!
