Voucher Code Sites - Anyone use them?

Hi all,

I am just wondering if an e-tailers use any of the big voucher code sites to push sales?

I have high ticket items with a lower margin but wanted to know if anyone out there uses Vouchercodes at the moment and if they had an sales increase as a direct result of using them?

Hi,

I used voucher codes for a 3 month period at christmas last year and had only 2 customers. I think the issue is unless the are looking for a specific product or brand it does not work to well. Things have to be filtered to the last detail and like auction sites there will always be a bigger company offering a higher percentage off than you i.e 30% 40%

In terms of seo it does not do much either.

I ran a series of voucher codes on some of these sites and probably saw 1 customer every 3 days.

From a seller's point of view, it didn't bring much traffic at all and certainly no sales.

From a buyer's point of view, I can't say I really rate them much either, most of the time you're required to register in order to use them and as a buyer, I can't be bothered.

If you have an affiliate program with one of the majour networks and use voucher codes, it can send a lot of sales. You will then be able to get the codes listed on all the high traffic voucher sites, since they will earn commission on each sale they send.

My advice is don't use voucher sites, we have banned them from our affiliate program.

They are basically parasitical.

As per the thread mentioned before, you have to factor in that you are losing money from the top and bottom line and what its combined effect is.

The other consideration of cause, as has been hinted at, is if you would have secured these sales without the use of a voucher? How many people are finding you because they are searching for "pizza" on the voucher site and how many know of you and are searching for "top hat pizza" on the voucher site to simply save money on something they would otherwise buy anyway (for which you must also pay the voucher site for the privilege)

My personal experience as a consumer, I have only ever searched for named companies on these sites and never for a generic to find companies offering a discount.

You are right. I am always looking for vouchers when I see a voucher code box on a website. I would have bought the product anyway but seeing that box always makes me do a little search.

Great advice guys & gals - thank you.

That's absolutely normal IMO. after all who doesn't want to save a few bucks if you have the option to do so, everyone does that :)

As far as the coupon codes or voucher codes are concerned, they can actually drive tremendous traffic to your website(s), and when there is more traffic the better are the chances of conversion. You need to figure out the correct places for placing the codes, the rest of the websites would start pulling the same data from the popular websites and them onto theirs.

As per most of the replies above we used to issue them to the voucher sites via our affiliate program but have now stopped as after analysing the sales they were bringing in plus paying out for the affiliate commission we decided the figures just didn't add up.
What we could of done is for every sale that uses a voucher code then the affiliate gets a reduced commission (thats what a lot of other retailers do) but in the end it would of been more hassle than it is worth.
We do still use discount codes but only for print advertising or if I do a special discount newsletter (which a short expiry date on the codes).
