The power of a good morning routine

As we come to the end of the first quarter of 2022, you might be reflecting on how the year has panned out for you and whether you are still working towards, or have achieved, the goals you set out to reach at the start of the new year.

UKBF's Chief Commerical Officer, Rebecca Hill, recently shared six tried and tested habits that she recommends everyone tries to get their day off to the right start.

Whether you’re a night owl or a morning lark, in this article that Rebecca wrote for BEYOUROWN, she advocates that a consistent morning routine will make a massive difference to your day and help you manage whatever challenges life throws at you! Rebecca's top tips include:

1. Stepping away from technology

As tempting as it may be, Rebecca's advice is to ignore your phone first thing in the morning! This morning routine is a little bit of time, just for you, to set the tone for your day and steer how it is going to be. Catching up on the news, emails, and social media can all wait.

2. Starting the morning with positivity

Write down, or take a moment to think about, three things you are grateful for in your life. Rebecca suggests they can be big or small things, as long as they are meaningful. This simple activity will help positively focus your mind and shift any negative thoughts from the previous day into the past.

3. Setting your intentions

Rebecca encourages you to think about one thing you want to achieve today. What will make you feel like you have had a positive day when you get into bed again?

4. Pausing for five minutes

Before anything else, enjoy five minutes to yourself. Whilst it may feel utterly counterintuitive at first, resist the temptation to crack on with your day’s to-do list. Take a few minutes in the morning for your own wellbeing by doing a short meditation or deep breathing exercises. Rebecca likes to sit in her favourite spot to really taste and savour her morning coffee. When did you last do that?

5. Get moving

Whether it's a refreshing 10-minute walk, an energy-boosting mini yoga workout, or five minutes in the kitchen disco, make your body move and feel the benefits throughout your body. It doesn’t really matter what you decide to do, as long as it gets your body moving and your happy hormones flowing!

6. Slowing down for breakfast

Instead of grabbing a slice of toast to munch on in the car, or a bowl of cereal to chow down at your desk, sit down, slow down and enjoy breakfast with your loved ones. It doesn’t have to take long, but it will be meaningful. Share your plans for the day, talk about your intentions, and encourage one another.
