Fair comment. I've never put up domains for sale before so it was a bit of a click, click, leave default settings, done. I'll give it a review.
I agree too with these new domain extensions coming into play. I cannot imagine domains will continue to be expensive in terms of reselling anymore.
I would also point towards looking at VPSs as you were using shared hosting. I was looking at gandi.net's simple hosting which looks quite interesting and I would imagine good performance-wise although for the OP perhaps a little advanced. So, like above, I'd recommend something will...
If you are using phpMyAdmin, the task is as easy as clicking export, save as your required format e.g. .SQL (or compressed) and then importing on the newer system. If the import doesn't work as expected, you can easily edit the .SQL file as the data and commands to create tables, etc is stored...
