In that scenario, a Spanish VAT registered business would provide the VAT number to a UK retailer and not pay VAT to begin with because it would be exempt, correct? Would I not have to pay import duty at the VAT rate in Spain upon receipt, though?
If I am a VAT-registered business in the UK, and I order goods online from another UK registered business, BUT the delivery address is in Spain, what are my obligations and rights r.e. VAT? Do I pay it and then reclaim from HMRC as normal? Or does Spanish VAT/IVA come into it?
Thanks - should I request this after the purchase? My concern is that businesses may refuse to provide the VAT invoice. Adidas' website, for example, states that they do not provide VAT invoices for online purchases (I thought it was a legal requirement?)
