    Access code when customers call?

How would I go about setting up a telephony system that provides customers an option to enter a code when calling? This would then perform another function. Is this something I would have to go through BT to achieve, or contact a programmer to create the system? Thanks in advance.

Predicting sales for start-up retail business...

I'm trying to generate some figures for my cash-flow forecast for a business idea I have had. I should probably point out that this is the first time I've put together a business plan / cash flow forecast - therefore I would appreciate any advice. The idea I've had doesn't require huge...

    Dealing with P&P costs...

Thanks Chris, Definitely some things to consider there. I'll try and adapt things accordingly.

    Dealing with P&P costs...

Thanks for the advice, Stewart. That's what I'm hoping to do. I know it won't be easy, but it's all I really want to do in life. I'm determined to at least give it a try and adapt where possible! I get the feeling that people may think that i'm being too naive or something similar, but you...

    Dealing with P&P costs...

Ah see, that's something I wasn't aware of. As I said, not all of my items have such a low markup. Is it normal to have a few items that are quite below this though? Also, if that is the case, does that mean my supplier is probably charging me a lot more than they would others? From the...

    Dealing with P&P costs...

Hi JM, Not all of the products have such a low return. I have just tried to make at least that amount on products that I would have made a loss on otherwise. In other words, I don't want to miss out on sales because I don't stock certain items that my competitors do. Sure here's the full...

    Dealing with P&P costs...

Sorry, I should have said - potential customers can purchase single items, or multiple. They're not part of a set, as such. There's no requirement to purchase more than one thing in one order. Although I do intend to offer discounts for multiple purchases in one order etc.

    Dealing with P&P costs...

Hi Chris, I would be selling a wide range of products, I just gave that one as an example. My profit per unit can go up to £10 on certain items. As I said, I am quite new to all of this, and I don't know how competitors deal with new start-ups, that's the only reason I haven't stated what type...

    Dealing with P&P costs...

I appreciate that, but I do have a personal interest in the type of products I will be selling. I also think this type of business would be perfect for my current level of experience as it gives me an opportunity to grow with the business. I don't think I will face the same kind of issues you...

    Dealing with P&P costs...

Hi Deniser, Yes, all packing material etc is included in the total costs. Not all of the items bring such a low profit, that's just the minimum I allowed for on each unit. As you said, I haven't planned to make a loss on any items, except for the issue I outlined. I'm not looking to become an...

    Dealing with P&P costs...

I'm having a few problems calculating my profit/loss per unit when adding P&P into the mix. From doing my own research I can see that P&P is a bit of a nightmare for any new e-commerce business, so I was hoping to find out if anyone knew any tricks of the trade or could offer some advice...

    VAT Calculation Advice...

Kelvin, I don't think it's because of any loses on their part, as you said, it doesn't have any effect on them. I think its more to do with the perception of businesses that aren't registered, opposed to those who are. The fact you aren't registered immediately rings alarm bells that turnover...

    VAT Calculation Advice...

Thanks Faraday I updated everything as recommended, I did have it that way around at one point, honest! haha. It just seemed like too much profit, so I began to question my calculations and ended up with something that seemed more realistic, but apparently wrong!

    VAT Calculation Advice...

Ah, I think I know what you mean now, faraday. That's something I swapped around a few times as I was unsure whether to take it from gross. I'm still a bit unsure about the VAT element though...
