@UK Contractor Accountant
This is the thing. There are two route options:
1. Appoint a tax investigation specialist to put my personal accounts right and defend against HMRC investigation. Ironically I think this is the more open ended option because the truth is I don't know...
Likely both. I stuck my head in the sand for too long. When I engage with HMRC over my personal taxes (the DLA) they will want to investigate the comp. I have screwed myself all ways. I am meeting with IP next week to discuss preparing accounts and options. Terrifying from my perspective. I feel...
I think I am likely to be personally insolvent. Can possibly raise half the amount. I want to pay but it seems from what I have read that HMRC don't tend to provide any wriggle room. I am hoping a professional can negotiate with them.
Hi.
Voluntarily declare personal back taxes. I don't know how to do this properly so will seek out professional help. Most of 5he firms advertised deal with HMRC investigations as well (just in case). I don't know whicj firms I can trust though.
I have decided to go down the voluntary declaration route. I do not have knowledge to manage this process though.
It seems there are allot of tax advisory services popping up when googled. I have no idea if any offer good service or value.
Can anyone here provide recommendations / advice in...
Thnkyou all.
@Scalloway I appreciate your comment. My concern though is that I cannot support a dividend with records. Will HMRC not just make my life more difficult and accuse me of lying?
Additional to previous queries can anyone recommend any accountancy firms who are 'sympathetic' to...
Hi all,
I posted previously about how I should declare the Directors Loan I had accumulated from my my now dissolved company. There were different opinions expressed here. I don't want to dig an even bigger hole so on that score I am looking for a tax accountant/insolvency firm who can help me...
I am still a little confused. Should I book the DLA to dividends? I need to do something. My worry is that if I log dividends then the revenue will ask me to produce records supporting my claim, which is why I consider honesty being the best policy in this situation. If I lie I will just dig a...
According to advice on .gov.uk written off Directors Loans are taxable under income tax. Since the company is disolved the DLA is by default 'written off' so I will add to self assessment. If I don't and they investigate. I would be clobbered. At least this way I am being honest about the funds...
Thanks for the advice Scalloway. I guess being honest in this situation is the best policy. If I pay the income tax at least my personal tax affairs will be in order whether they come back for a bite of the cherry or not.
Thanks Spongebob.
I guess I am worried that the way I account for income in my self assessment will affect whether it gets flagged to other HMRC offices, increasing the likelyhood of the company being reformed with the personal liability this will illicit. I was just overwhelmed and so...
Hi all,
I am seeking advice with regard to a difficult situation. I worked as a contractor and set up an ltd. However, I stuck my head in the sand and did not face up to my responsibilities. I did not file returns or accounts. I did not even open mail (I am seeking mental health support as this...
