What does this company have that you want or need? Do they have some good water tight contracts? Do they have qualified, experienced people that would be hard to replace? If not, why not start a similar business from scratch yourself? What are you buying exactly?

Microsoft Excel is very good for this if you know how to use it. There are loads of ready made templates you can download for free but making your own isn't difficult at all, much cheaper than dedicated software, especially as you will need to keep expenditure low
