    Streamed music to my hifi

Does your laptop have bluetooth? If so you could stream audio over bluetooth to a receiver connected to the HiFi. A quick google search turned up devices from Belkin and others under £25.

    storing images in databases, question

Avoid storing large chunks of binary (image) data in the database if avoidable, and just store the link to the fileserver where the image is located. Think of it this way.... you could fit your car in your lounge each night while you sleep, rather than in the car park, but damn its a pain in...

Specialist PC - 2 different raided hard drives

Hi Page, I second the separate NAS box for the shared storage. Look at Drobo, QNAP, Synology, Netgear ReadyNAS etc. Something like a 4 bay would be ideal and pretty much autonomous, put disks into it and allow it to RAID5 them, job done. Alternatively build yourself a NAS device from an...

What would you expect to pay......

£80 an hour is a bit steep given that most of it will be watching a busy cursor... The OSX reinstall is circa 15-20 mins, however depending on how much data you have and the method of intermediate storage used will determine the time taken for the backup. If you're going to throw tens of...

    Intel E6400 idle temperature

Hi JoyDivision, to be honest the idle temp is not that important (and the reported temps from some systems are pretty inaccurate, despite the inbuilt thermal diode on the CPU!) What is rather more important is the load temps and overall system stability. Get hold of Prime95 or other stress...
