    Office rent and tax

I'm a sole trader. The tax threshold is £12,570. I have office rent expenses. Will that count straight on the threshold. Lets say i earn £15,000 a year, my office rent is £4000. Deducting that I would fall under the threshold and not be tax liable.

    Zero rate VAT

It's a complex situation as there is a UK shop involved and ecommerce trade to non UK customers. As well, he earns more if sold in the shop rather than online, as I have my commission, and so does the marketplaces we list them on. I own the website, so I advise him according to my requirements...

    Zero rate VAT

I got it, thank you. In these times, we are selling most of 50% off. Marketplace fees and my fees on top of that, will get him to more or less sell something not only for free, but from his own pocket. Now, if he sells with the VAT on non UK shipments, he will be on top a bit, as that will be...

    Zero rate VAT

Yes you are right, sorry I'm new to VAT, my client has been VAT registered for over 20 years. If he's VAT registered, he claims back the import VAT regardless of where he sells. As I can understand, he can claim back the VAT he paid when importing the merchandise, when sold? £83.33 is the...

    Zero rate VAT

I'm trying to encourage my client to zero rate VAT for ecommerce sale we ship out of UK. But he is reluctant and tells me he can't claim back VAT. He can, I think he is just using it as an excuse. But I don't want to advise him to do something that he will lose on. For example, when he imports...

    VAT exempt amount

I'm shipping from UK to EU. Item price: £500 Shipping paid by customer: £50 Total: £550 Do I declare £550, as VAT exempt? Situation 2 Item price: £500 Shipping paid by customer: £50 Total: £550 Our shipping cost: £25. We surplus £25, as we charged more for shipping, but it didn't cost us as...

Pay VAT to HMRC for exports

As far as I knew, shipping outside of UK was zero VAT, you didn't charge the buyer VAT and you were exempt to paying HMRC 20%. Hope I'm right here. Now with Brexit things are utterly complicated. First, does this rule still apply, that everything we ship outside the UK we are exempted to pay...

Brexit - Sending (Chinese, UK, EU) goods from UK to EU

Yea, seems they have the same obligations when buying from the UK, as I have read that UK customers are being charged on anything above 22 Euro. But then I just ordered two things from Italy under £135 and wasn't charged anything. This is in their FAQ: As required by current legislation, duty...

Brexit - Sending (Chinese, UK, EU) goods from UK to EU

Right, so UK citizens don't have any import tax/duties/broker fees up to £135 when buying from the EU, but EU citizens have VAT/duties/(broker fees) for everything above 22 Euro when buying from the UK. Great deal Boris "Lockdown" Johnson, and Brexiters must be thriving now as UK businesses are...

Brexit - Sending (Chinese, UK, EU) goods from UK to EU

Thanks for the link. Refund, nah. Not after PayPal and eBay has landed their fees on the total, it's just not feasible.

Brexit - Sending (Chinese, UK, EU) goods from UK to EU

Most customers don't even know this and will just be bothered by all the fees they will get. Besides, we do most of our sales on eBay marketplace and eBay doesn't have the system where the VAT is removed for a EU or rest of the world purchase.

Brexit - Sending (Chinese, UK, EU) goods from UK to EU

I'm speaking for myself. I wouldn't buy from Amazon UK or any other business if I can find the same item in an EU country, as an EU resident. Why pay an extra of 10-25% of fees? The conception among EU citizens will be the same I believe, as more, will turn away even at looking at .uk...

Brexit - Sending (Chinese, UK, EU) goods from UK to EU

Does that make sense, they will pay the same VAT if not more when it arrives to their destination country, plus duties?

Brexit - Sending (Chinese, UK, EU) goods from UK to EU

So it's basically VAT on everything we ship out from UK to EU above £25 no matter the origin? 6 months from now, no one from an EU country will buy online from a UK business. Nah, this time I'm not blaming fake news for this misery upon businesses.

Brexit - Sending (Chinese, UK, EU) goods from UK to EU

Just to get it right, you didn't specify on 1 and 2 EU/UK origin, does this mean that if it's EU/UK origin up to 150 EUR it's business as usual, no fees?
