Advice for a brand new company

Just to add to the 'bank bashing'. I have built my business relatively slowly but, I believe securely, as I have, at all times avoided borrowing from banks. The fees, interest and conditions that they impose are, IMO, just not worth the stress on a small business and personal peace of mind...

Advice for a brand new company

These people are very good and free. This is a Scottish outfit but there must be an English or UK equivalent. The advice is all good regardless of where you are anyway. http://www.business.scotland.gov.uk/bdotg/action/home?site=202

I am sorry as I am sure that this has been discussed before but I cant find it!! I have two practices where I work equally and I now need to take card payments. I have held off as long as possible hoping that a good mobile solution will evolve and hopefully it may have. Can anyone recommend a...

    Questions about Sweet shop

If you are weighing out sweets then you will need to use trading standards scales- horribly (and unjustifiably) expensive. Shop around hard to get good price and I did a deal for scales plus till from Viking - not sure they still do right scales though.

How to Run an eCommerce Shop

I thought that you do have to have T&Cs under distance selling regulations. Trading standards will be able to advise you and leave a paper trail of advice if ever necessary. Customer service - I dont believe that there are any 'rules' about this. I think the answer is 'as quick as humanely...

    Wood burning stove

This may be the accepted wisdom but ours goes directly into the existing flue without a liner and draws beautifully. Chimney draw depends on heat rising but can be more complex than that. Our chimney is an original build over 200 years old and that may account for it. Although the house is...

    Wood burning stove

Nothing but positives!! Ours is fab - huge heat output that can be felt through the whole house. Bought from stoves online, used existing chimney without lining, stands on slate slab recycled from snooker table (see ebay) and use mix of our own seasoned logs and cuts from local saw mill. Only...

    new business ideas?

Hi Ruth This is a good idea. We have a friend who started this when made redundant and it went really well. He gave up when offered his job back but only because he prefers it. You surely have to make sure that there is not much competition and try to do as many as possible in each car park...

    new business ideas?

Bit different to what everyone is saying but.........We live in an area that is unbelievably short of chimney sweeps- had to book 2 months in advance, they are busy all year round and the job is much easier than it used to be.Also - very low set up, no official qualifications and lots of money...
