Heyes

Me? What do I do?
Not being pretentious... 'burned-out entrepreneur & troubleshooter.'

=====================

I've been here before, albeit years ago and for which I can no longer find the appropriate login and so I've rejoined.

Being honest, and this is in no way intended to be unfriendly/superior or in any other way inappropriate, I try to stay away from forums because I'm deterred by:

Posters who, rather than trying to learn, simply want answers which only fit their viewpoint rather than being factually accurate. And replies of advice which are 'clearly b*ll*cks' - opinion rather than fact (and for which the response to suggestions of this being so, is a defensively/attackingly reply with 'I've always done it this way, and never had an issue').

I've often seen questions to which the obvious reply is 'you need professional advice rather than asking someone on the internet'. (I've naively posted such stuff myself.)

Conversely there's lots of good factual advice available from and provided by those who freely share their time and knowledge, and I appreciate it.. I recognise 'pro help' is at times unaffordable and various stuff has to be handled diy with whatever free help can be found.

And then there's those times when 'someone says something that someone else doesn't like and things get tetchy and an argument ensues'. I'm genuinely sensitive and get upset by this - similar to seeing someone shout at their young kids in Sainsbury's, or pull hard on the dog lead.

Anyway, whatever. I'm here again.
Last time I made a conscious effort to find posts where I could genuinely be of help. This time, perhaps not so much - I'm older and have less available energy, so may simply read to learn. But to me, it's important to give where able rather than simply seek-and-take.

Oh, almost forgot... the 'Heyes' thing - it's not my name - that's gulliver (the lower-case 'g' is not a typo).

I've used 'Heyes' for webstuff for about 25 years... when I first began using the web, and knew nought about it, a friend who was helping me set-up said something like 'you need an alias'. 'Huh?', I replied, quickly followed by 'Heyes'. So that's where it originated. The 'why' is simple: it comes from a tv program I enjoyed - 'Alias Smith & Jones'.

Anyway... yeah... so now we all know.
