I see, some quick thoughts:
Sell priority placing to allow events to sit at the top for longer
Sell advertising space to buy band's merchandise
Sell article space to promote venues
Write blogs on how to travel to venues
Etc.

You say : "..one is a rock‑news aggregator that already attracts millions of visits each month, but Google Ads pays next to nothing!"
If you're getting millions of visits you've got the audience and just need to work out how to monetise that. It should be much easier than other options.
How...
Good so far. Its very early but engagement on socials is up and it is so easy to use. You upload a photo (it can be an Ai one) tell it what you want it to do, for example make person smile and walk towards camera or make traffic move and clouds move and it does it! Takes about a minute each time...
IME, companies often don't value leads unless they are getting lots of them. If they are free you rely on them telling you when they converted and how much profit there was... Plus if they are free, if they do nothing with it it won't matter. If they pay they can get envious of paying you for...
I know! I thought it was about £130 for the year (software plus extra credits) but one of my team found a deal on it. For about £1 a week we can't go wrong! We've not tried it yet but will do in the next couple of weeks and I'll try to remember to report back.
Honestly, there's loads of free tools out there but often you can only do small amounts of work before you run out of credits and have to pay. There may be ones we could have used for free but it just wasn't worth the time going through them all.
Just in case anyone is wondering, we went with Fotor, which has lots of tools and got a deal on a year's licence for just £55. I am sure there is free stuff out there but it wasn't worth the time looking.
If you're only selling locally the name will help but if you sell further afield it will work against you. It's as simple as that. There are some exception (Pimlico Plumbers for example) but not many.
Can anyone recommend a piece of software to do this? We just need to an animate some images for social media and other applications but despite Googling it, it is frustratingly challenging to find.
The issue with those type of stats is that, these days they are pretty meaningless.
Opens have always been affected buy auto previews in email clients and people who have to click on/open them to delete them.
Clicks are affected by security systems these days which auto click all links to...
Agree with the above Alice. Your market just want a website, they don't want the hassle of looking for hosting or talking to anyone. Most can just google a cheap supplier and tell their website developer/designer.
You sound like you're trying hard but there are many other things you could sell...
If you ask it something like 'What do telecoms companies do?' or 'what is the fastest car you can buy'
AI called Gemini, in Google, only seems to show when you ask it a specific question.
It's just in the midst of a rebuild but from and SEO and PPC viewpoint, having AI now recommend companies is a game changer potentially. You're right about the how to questions but now it seems to be adding 'And these companies can help you with this' below. This is a massive change for search IMO
