Have shipped a parcel to the US. When filling the customs details I used my nom de plume professional name - this was so my client doesn't realise this isn't my real name. I did use my actual address. Could that be a problem at customs?
Are refunds counted as taxable income?
I've recently had to return a number of items bought through Amazon - have received refunds in full, paid back into my bank account.
Do I need to consider these refunds as taxable income?
Edit: The items bought would have been used solely for my business.
My wife is a sole trader and rents a workshop. If she buys a coffee and a biscuit/cake during her working day, can she claim that is sustenance for her accounts? Same if she buys a lunch?
Would she need receipts (she hasn't any)? Or could she calculate a reasonable amount - five days/week 48...
I'm a Sole Trader working full time from home, where I have my office and workshop. I've totted up my electric/gas bill, water bill, boiler service, VPN and BT bill. What % would an accountant put down as fair use for my business?
As state benefits are taxable income, are they considered when calculating a sole trader self-employed person's pension contributions?
As far as I understand the self-employed can contribute an equal amount to their net profit from their business, to their pension (and thus benefit from pension...
I'm posting an item to America. It will be rolled up in a carpet tube approx 142cm in length. What would be the best carrier for this? It needn't be the cheapest as my client will be paying.
The item is fragile would customs need to pull it out of the tube to inspect it? If they did can they...
Just received my tax return (self-employment) from my accountant to sign off. It's been a tough couple of years, but good news is I don't have any tax to fork out for and I'm still in business. And also accountant says under new rules I get a National Insurance credit towards my pension. I know...
I'm confused - is this a scam? Out of the blue I've received a payment made into my Paypal account of nearly £2k from someone with a US address. I can see it's supposed to be for one of my paintings. The description details a title of a painting and an item number - the title is one I might use...
I was just thinking, everything I wear in the studio gets covered in paint. They start off new but my studio clothes aren't suitable to wear in my civilian life. Does that make them an expense?
I once heard Frank Skinner say that he'd bought a shirt that had belonged to Elvis Presley for £10k I think it was. He then said that because he'd worn it during the recording of a TV programme that he could claim the £10k as expenses. How would that be possible?
Just thinking about the civilian vs business use of clothes. My studio is pretty cold so I have to wear gloves and long johns - which are feasibly civilian clothing. Would thermal underwear be allowable? But my apron is allowable, as I wouldn't wear it for anything else?
