I think one of the easiest options is RBS Worldpay. It's fairly easy to apply for and includes the Merchant Account and Payment Gateway with certain packages. This makes accepting payments online very easy. They also have extra options including a virtual terminal if needed.

This is great advice. I think that few people will be able to negotiate when they first open their merchant account. Once you have some history under your belt then it should be easier to reduce the charges because of your lower risk.
