See what I've experienced is that with some of our clients, the site has taken a hit in wise of their site quality. This has, by association, affected the trust flow of our clients. No penalties yet, touch wood, so I haven't needed to panic. Just need to clean up the backlinks.
Also, is this the right season to be aggressive with your marketing? If it's the quiet or the off season, like it is for seaside towns now, it might be best to bunker down and plan for when it's tourist season again,

I find, sending the odd email or quick chat is something that can help maintain a good relationship.
E.g if I have some good stats or a good win, I'd make sure I that client a short note about it, which I'd expand on in our monthly report.
