Sexual harassment rules: The plot thickens

I spoke to an employment law journalist this morning about our campaign to force the government to delay Sunday's implementation of new sexual harassment rules.

She told me she has been speaking to employment lawyers for many months about the forthcoming discrimination rules coming into force on 6 April but not one has mentioned the particular laws we're referring to.

What more information do you need to prove our point that the regulations introduced without consultation only two weeks must be delayed to give businesses time to comply?

The government spokesperson I've been badgering all week finally admitted to me yesterday that small firms will be hit with a total bill of £9.1m doing whatever they need to do to make sure they don't full foul of the law.

Business Link has also now published details of the regulations on their website. A coincidence? I think not!

Even more weight has been added to our campaign now that the Forum of Private businesses is officially backing it. We expect more organisations to follow.

We admit that with only a few days to go untik the rules come into force we may not force the government to change its hand but what we are showing it that the continual lack of consultation over rules impacting on small business owners cannot continue.

I urge you to sign our petition now.
