problem with autoglass

Hi guys

I have a problem and need some advice really..

My car windscreen was replaced by autoglass under insurance cover, I paid £75.
While replacing the windscreen the guy broke the rain sensor, upon finding out I contacted the autoglass and I was told to drive to their reading branch. There I was told that I have to contact the branch who replaced the windscreen in High Wycombe.

Upon one missed appointment they sent a technician to put new rain sensor, while replacing it, technician broke curtsey lights, and due to that car fuse went off . Then he opened the fuse compartment and while opening that he pull it so hard that the clip which holds it with dash board took whole chunk off the dashboard with it, damaging it badly.

Now dilemma is that I was told that it will be fix on Monday, (work was carried out on Saturday) on Monday branch said they can't do it on Monday, so I said come on Saturday. On Saturday upon calling them they said work is being done in our records on Thursday, and when I said it’s not possible, branch said we have no more information, and the technician who was assigned the task is off sick so they cannot confirm.

I called head office and formally complained about whole thing, the guy took all notes and told me that I will be contacted on Monday to fix this problem.

Monday gone, nothing from autoglass.

I am so upset about this and don't know what to do now, as they are not taking this matter seriously. I would really appreciate if someone can advise me where to go from here?

Sorry for the long post and thanks in advance for your advice.

Get auto glass to come out to you to rectify the fault.I think under terms of insurance cover they have to do this. They always have when I needed a new screen.

Question do you think anyone should be driving if they don't know when its raining.?;):)

Blimey, sounds like something from a Carry On film!

It is their fault so they should be coming to you / making the arrangements.

I would recommend that you put down in writing, exactly what has happened (including the dates and names of the operatives), and state that it is them who must arrange to come to you / take the car. In the meantime, due to their negligence and the state of the car, you have now hired a car and will look towards them to cover the full cost of the replacement plus, your previous abortive time, petrol etc - it is all claimable.

If you do not hear from them within say 7 days (which you need to state on the same letter), you will arrange for the work to be done by others and seek the total cost from them. This will then be a matter for the small claims court (<£5,000).

Send the letter to your local branch and head office by recorded delivery - and set out your claim to date.

Best of luck

As the original repair (and subsequent damage) was carried out and mainly financed & authorised by your insurance company, wouldn't they be partly responsible and or willing to help put pressure on Autoglass to carry out the repairs.
Spoke to my insurer,, they said they cannot do anything here, as they only recommend them, apart from they have some financial agreement with autoglass, they don't deal with them.

So I have to go to autoglass directly. Yet they wish me a good luck with this..............

Now, about 3 hours ago I called Autoglass again trying my luck. First guy took my details, and put me on hold for about 6 minutes, said he is from call centre so he cannot act on this matter, gave customer service number, I rang customer service and guy at customer service told he is unable to view my complaint I registered over the phone on Saturday, as it was with call centre.... duh:(.

I explained him everything again and he said he will call the branch and will get back to me shortly.. so just waiting for his call now.

By the way, my car is in perfect driving condition, windscreen is fixed, its the damage they done while replacing the rain sensor, although without curtsey lights and lose cover on driver side fuse compartment.

And also I have photographed everything while the technician was busy wrecking my car.

Yer, like going through 10 numbers on a phone menu just to get a call centre and then broken promises!

Why waste time when you are consistently getting the run around. Autoglass have already proved that they could not organise a proverbial in a brewery!

A well drafted letter to the appropriate executive in a blue chip company always concentrates the mind. And so does the threat of a nice monetary claim!

Hi, I had a similar problem with Autoglass and my partenrs car, they put to much glue over the sensor and damaged it.

We had to call them a few times and i refused to drive the car to them as it was there fault and i had paid out already. It took only a few days to sort it though.
All we did was speak to the booking line got them to access the records of which depot came to us and called them directly but they tried to fob us off and i didnt budge until they agreed to sort it.

Really hope you get this sorted

Regards

Ross

Stop talking to Autoglass and send an email complaint to your insurance company, after all THEY are the Autoglass customer.

We had a similar farce with them turning up with a screen for the wrong model of van DESPITE me stressing that we had the "New Shape" van & giving them the reg. number.

The insurance co. sent me 2 bottles of good wine by way of an apology - not sure what they told Autoglass but they didn't get it wrong again.:D
