Dissolved LTD company - Business rate demand

Hi all,

I have been using this site for several years to give me an insight to opening a business.

I finally took the plunge and opened a restaurant in Nov 2015 but due to ill health and family issues I had to close the business at a loss in June 2016.

The company was dissolved on 8th Nov 2016.

I have just received a demand for business rates in my name at my home address covering the period the shop was open.

Am I still liable for the ltd companies debt?

The money owed is just over 2K. The only way to pay off the debt would be to sell
my car.

Was the building in your name or the company's?

The building was sub-let to me. Sounds silly but I'm not sure whether the agreement was in my name or the business. I will check the paper work.

If it was in your name you will be liable.

Selling your car sounds rather dramatic. Why not borrow from family and friends and/or set up a repayment plan so you can repay out of any salary you have coming in.
