The letters are undisputed personal property and also sensitive as they could be connected with health of the OP.

However, there is no way the police can know for certain what the status of the property is. The OP can show receipts but he is not an employee of this company he is an ex-director of it who is presently in dispute wit them. Even if he could show receipts to say that he bought the computer etc. as a director he could have brought those items into the company. Even if he didn't, the items are still in the possession of the company. There are many items that companies have in their possession which they do not own, such as photocopiers or plant. If they refuse to make payments, the company who owns the equipment has to go through the civil courts to get their equipment.

This is not a case of an ex-employee not getting his hat an coat back from the firm he once worked for. It is a case of a director who has a dispute with the company he has just left. There are many loose ends to be tied up in those situations especially if there is a director who resigns without any prior discussions.

It's not theft as they have offered to return it. theft is to permanently deprive you of the goods

I have so much evidence on them of fiddling expenses to cover cash in hand work, HSE laws broken. Paul purposely turning down business to the tune of £30k, ignoring customer emails, customer complaints all disproving their claims that it was myself purposely setting out to damage the business End quote

What has this got to do with the case answer absolutely nothing, I understand your frustration but would the court just state it is nothing to do with holding on to your equipemnt

I have so much evidence on them of fiddling expenses to cover cash in hand work, HSE laws broken. Paul purposely turning down business to the tune of £30k, ignoring customer emails, customer complaints all disproving their claims that it was myself purposely setting out to damage the business. I even had one of the warehouse lads email me today, saying they would be a witness for me if it went to court about how he feels Paul is purposely trying to make the business fail.

I'm not sure this has too much to do with the holding of your property, as @Chris Ashdown mentions above. In fact, you're almost suggesting something pretty close to blackmail in return which is exactly what you are so annoyed about...
Have you reported this to the fraud squad or to your friendly neighbourhood copper while he was at your kitchen table? If you hang on to this without doing anything of the sort at this point, then this evidence will be useless to you in court while you're arguing over a separate matter.
