I'm looking to start my own business and I require some web hosting, can someone recommend me a couple of companies? Who is your current host?

I now have a dedicated server with RapidSwitch but i have found Hostgator to be very good in the past.

If your just starting out small why not use the web space you currently have with NTL, BT or whoever your internet provider is?

I would help you out but my hosting isnt set up yet. Could try ehosting.co.uk - used them a few years back and never had any problems. or mediatemple.com - you get alot for your money but it is a little slow at times, although this is the one my site is hosted with at the moment.

I offer fast UK based hosting. It costs £8.99 a month which has mysql and php support and unlimited email address.

Or you could wait for a few weeks, after that i will be offering hosting with php,mysql, perl etc etc etc for £2.50 per month. Now i dont have my price list here so i cant give you the exact specs of the package but it is for low traffic websites. About 650mb bandwidth per month if i remember rightly.

The best advice I can offer is go for a real host at the top level, where you know where the equipment is at.

http://www.kualo.com and http://www.servint.com offer first class service.

The hosting model is based on a pyramid of providers, reselling and reselling chunks of a top level providers service.

If this is Jimmy Big host, you're at the mercy of him, who is at the mercy of his host, who is at the mercy of his host. Other than relaying data centre messages these 5 man bands can rarely help during a major outage.

Not to discredit everyone who resells btw, but it's a major consideration I base my decisions on from experience.

Always get recommendations from current clients on the host, based on uptime, customer service and technical support.
