Yahoo Answers for link building

Someone suggested to me that posting answers on Yahoo Answers was a good way to build links to a site.

So I've signed up, but you have to reach Level 2 to post links (fair enough)

To increase your level (to level 2 and beyond) you score points by answering questions, so this is what I've been doing (I think I've done the nation's maths homework in the last couple of evenings!) to boost my score.

But do Yahoo Answers links actually have any SEO value - I've had a look at the source code of a number of pages and am seeing rel="no follow" a lot. Does this mean, as far as Google et al are concerned, the links are ignored and worthless?

(I can see how they could be useful from a human point of view if the link is relevant to the question you are answering.)

That is the long and short of it - no actual value in terms of links but could get you some relevant traffic which could, possibly, get you some links elsewhere further down the line.

Certainly no harm in it.

Yahoo backlinks are no-follow therefore no benefit in terms of link juice but I must say I have gained a $hit load of traffic to some of my websites by answering questions with my link as the source.

e.g. I own a football news related website and I thought I would do a basic test. I created a page that explained the enjoyment of legal and live football streaming and how you could sign up to it. I dropped in a few affiliate links and starting searching for specific Yahoo questions on streaming and football. Within an hour I was getting a heaps of traffic via Yahoo. I did this in early 2009 and I still get traffic from yahoo.

Just be careful by not over doing it with your website links

It definitely is the same post Jeff, what are the odds against someone using exactly the same wording in a post? must be astronomical

Not sure we can be sure its DWP, but you're right 'tomas weber' has done it twice today (including this thread):

Yahoo Answers is still worth it as if used appropriately may bring you some relevant traffic. You certainly do see Yahoo Answer pages up on major searches and if the Question that's being brought up is one of those where you have a link you will definitely get some traffic for it.

Just use it as one of your traffic building strategies. Just don't get too spammy with it

Mods - should be pretty easy to write something that checks if posts are straight copies of previous posts and automatically ban the user if they are. Have noticed this board is getting a lot spammier - might be time to start rolling out some custom anti spam solutions.
